Travelling around in Lodon

Hello guys,

I need some advice on travelling around in London. I’ll start off with asking, how do I get from Boston Manor tube station to Waterloo tube station?

Re: Travelling around in Lodon

Hi,

You can use www.tfl.gov.uk and www.transportdirect.co.uk

They are very detailed websites. Just enter you source and destination address/station/postcode etc and they will show you all the possible routes/bus/tube/train you can take and how long each of them will take. These websites made my life very easy in England. I hope they help!

Re: Travelling around in Lodon

Yup, TFL jouney planner is pretty good. The London Underground Tube map is also very easy to read and plan routes. There are no separate maps for different lines.

Boston Manor is on the Picadilly line (dark blue) you take this to one of the lines that connect to Waterloo. So you can change at Green Park and take the Jubillee Line to Waterloo, or change at Picadilly Circus and take the Bakerloo line, or change at Leicester Sq and take the Northern line.
Journey planner selects the bakerloo change to be the quickest route, which is probably right because the change in lines at green park requires a bit of a walk.

Do this for all your journeys and you should be fine!

Re: Travelling around in Lodon

Thanks for the suggestion guys. That will be of great help. I still have a few London related questions. :)

Do you know of any good halal restaurants/cafes in Brentford?

Re: Travelling around in Lodon

Ok, I'm pretty much set when it comes to the travelling part. But are there any places in London that one should avoid, as a tourist? Such as East End and South London perhaps?

Re: Travelling around in Lodon

As a tourist you'll probably only need to stick to central London as that's where the main tourist sites are.

Plus, make sure to get an oyster card as it makes travelling by public transport cheaper.

Re: Travelling around in Lodon

Well, I was thinking of places I should avoid due to crime and social problems being prevalent there?

Re: Travelling around in Lodon

Well most tourist spots are in places you shouldn't have trouble in. Just be vigilant with your belongings no matter where you are.

Avoid travelling late night if you can, I've been involved in serious physical confrontations and arrested three times in one year on Brixton Hill and Streatham Hill, I've even had a gun pulled on me but maybe that was just my bad luck. Have been in some rough situations around Lewisham, Tooting and Kingston. And these places are regarded safe during the day. Just be sensible with your travelling habits and how you behave.

  • Travel during the day unless you're around major tourist attractions in which case evenings are totally alright
  • Be vigilant and protect your belongings and keep them hidden from sight while on public transport
  • Travel in a group, it will put off any potential risks to do with getting attacked/mugged or whatever

Re: Travelling around in Lodon

Lol seriously?

I've been mugged in Northolt and have had an empty glass bottle hurled at me from a passing car near Uxbridge (I was quick enough to duck, was headed for my head). Other than that I haven't really run into trouble, but some of the ****tier areas could well mean trouble, like Harlesden, Walthamstow etc. Just make sure you follow GIDSA's tips, don't travel alone late at night.

Re: Travelling around in Lodon

Yeah bru, what ****ty luck 'eh? :hinna:

Luckily the only time I was successfully mugged was with the gun but I wasn’t carrying nothing, left my wallet in the car, just had some loose change for the milk and he just ran away to his mate, on those goddamn scooters. The other three times, those guys weren’t so lucky  I worked a lot with the local outfits because of the music I was doing with them and boxing/fights so it wasn’t a big problem because I know most of them.

Ahahahaha my USG peeps up in Harlesden! I know those guys, they do grime nowadays they’re alright. But I wouldn’t recommend a tourist hang about.
