Travel options - Please advise

So going from US to Pakistan (ISB), I have these airline choices:

EMIRATES, ETIHAD, PIA, & TURKISH airlines

The price points are fairly similar (spread of max $300) so that’s not a concern of mine.

I am most concerned about safety and convenience (for whatever that’s worth in economy class).

I have never traveled in these airlines above, so anyone with sharing their experience would be very helpful.

Thanks

Re: Travel options - Please advise

**Etihad and Emirates are great international airlines. Given the political situations in Pak i would NOT advise to fly with PIA. Turkish Airline is OK but NOT a great airline for sure.

as far as Etihad and Emirates airlines are concerned, they are very safe and comfortable. my ONLY concern flying with them is the political situation in the Middle East in general. if some political hapenning ignites in any of those HUB cities, there may be some disruptions. i wouldn't worry too much and i'll take one of the two airlines with a lil reservation.**

Re: Travel options - Please advise

Moving it to suitable forum....

Re: Travel options - Please advise

What does that have to do with flying with PIA?? I just don't get it.

I have had a very very good experience with Emirates. I would highly recommend that. Plus the layover in Dubai makes it even a better choice.

Re: Travel options - Please advise

**given the Pakistani political situation and the state of terrorism, anything can happen to PIA at any time...e.g. hijacking.

i've flown PIA myself in the past and i did like it but i would be cautious. i was planning to take PIA and make a stopover in Karachi but i gave up that idea. i am being realitically cautious here. you may not agree though and i accept it. :)**

Re: Travel options - Please advise

everyone goes through the same security at the airport, so hijacking threat is the same for PIA vs other ME airlines.

That said, I should have been more specific in my OP. By "safe" I just meant general condition of aircrafts and past experience of any accident/mishaps. Now I have my eyes set on Emirate. Thing is im flying from Chicago, so for me to take Emirates, I first have to connect at JFK (Newyork). Ethiad/PIA both go directly from Chicago.

So is the premium of flying with Emirates worth the extra hassle of flying to JFK first?

Re: Travel options - Please advise

I've had too many bad experiences with PIA, nearly getting bumped off for some official, other stuffs too.. so I'd rather pay a bit of premium for other airlines. Emirates also has good on board entertainment which will be handy for the long flight. Only pain will be the layover at JFK. If you're cool with that, stick to Emirates.

Re: Travel options - Please advise

Agreed with the IFE (In Flight Entertainment). Its better than any other airline out there. Plus, their service is quite decent.

Also on the PIA thing, normally their long haul flights aren't all bad, atleast I hear so.

Re: Travel options - Please advise

I call them as I see em. What you said didn't make any sense whatsoever. Sorry if that hurt your feelings.

Re: Travel options - Please advise

Thanks. What are your thoughts oN Etihad vs Emirates?

Re: Travel options - Please advise

I've travelled with all 4 of them. PIA, don't take it. Turkish is nice, but their fleets are kinda old. So a bit scary to travel in. This was a year or so ago, maybe they've gotten new planes since then, I have no idea. Etihad and Emirates are both competing with each other, however, I find Abu Dhabi airport the most boringest airport in the entire world. At least when you stop over in Dubai, the Emirates terminal is very nice and you can spend the couple of hours between flights properly entertained. In terms of convenience, I found Emirates a lot more convenient just because they had their own terminal so I didn't have to wait at counters for other airlines and such. Entertainment wise, both Emirates and Etihad are ok I guess.

Re: Travel options - Please advise

Don't know too much about Etihad, sorry. But since it's pretty much a direct competitor of Emirates, I'm sure their service and entertainment must be pretty comporable. And it could be the more convenient way for you due to the no layover in JFk. But I'd check about the layover in Abu Dhabi though for Etihad. Heard some people had to wait like 6-7 hours before the next flight out. But that was a while ago.

Re: Travel options - Please advise

Ok, thanks everyone.

Re: Travel options - Please advise

No experience on Turkish airlines. Emirates will be complicated for you in case you need to travel to JFK first. Go for Ettihad as option 1 and PIA as option 2 (even if PIA is upto 150/200 cheaper).

Re: Travel options - Please advise

Etihad is REALLY good. I have travelled on Etihad many times. Their planes are clean, airhostesses are cute and in-flight entertainment systems are top notch. Excellent airline. US to abudhabi route will be more pleasant than abudhabi to isb one..

Emirates is not far behind either. a bit expensive than Etihad though.

PIA direct flights are always less time consuming but entertainment systems are not that high tech unfortunately.

Re: Travel options - Please advise

LOL at PIA being vulnerable to hijackings. PIA is convenient for long haul flights (direct) and they have good planes too, but the in flight entertainment sucks. So does the menu. Emirates has always been a pleasant experience for me so I'd suggest that or Etihad as Saby suggested.

The only way I'd consider Turkish airlines would be if I wanted to make a stopover at Turkey for a couple of days (sightseeing etc.).

Re: Travel options - Please advise

In my experience, PIA is nothing special, standard food, standard entertainment and rude flight attendants! Emirates is fab, LOADS of fab and recent films to watch, top service, great food. I found the seats to be more comfortable and spacious than PIA too.

p.s no need for the name calling, come on dude!

Re: Travel options - Please advise

Etihad, ANY day... the inflight entertainment.. and the whole experience is great!

Re: Travel options - Please advise

PIA ... but

Emirates is great too loved the food and service!

Re: Travel options - Please advise

toronto VIA kARACHI ... there are almost 3 flights in a week .. and surprisingly .. flights are usually full, unless you book way ahead of time!!! ... so still majority of ppl choose PIA over other flights!!and they hav no fear of plane being hijacked whtsoever!! total rubbish stuff!! ... watching too much ndtv ?? and dude im sorry but you really sound quite funny if you really believe in all tht!
