Travel Injections and Fasting

I am going to Pakistan near the end of Ramadan and may need to get some injections before hand. Is it ok to do this when fasting, or would it invalidate my roza?

Re: Travel Injections and Fasting

YES, any injection will break your fast. some labs may be open until after iftaar.

Re: Travel Injections and Fasting

OK, thanks for the answer.

Re: Travel Injections and Fasting

It depends who you ask.
Some scholars say that if you take injections for the purposes of nourishment only then it invalidates the roza.

Re: Travel Injections and Fasting

is it ok to fast while traveling?
is it ok to fast when one is not healthy i.e., need medication during fasting time?

Re: Travel Injections and Fasting

**Allah has given you leave from fasting if you are traveling, if you are sick and if you are taking medication for some serious condition and the timing of medication can NOT be re-adjusted. these fasts are not forgiven when traveling, you have to fast at a later date. if you can NOT fast later due to illness, you are required to feed a poor person everyday the roza is missed.

women who are having periods and those who are nursing a baby or had a baby recently are allowed to defer the fasting days missed.**

some say since the traveling these days is so easy and comfy so you must fast. i would say to them that one must avail Allah's blessings and try not try to be a macho-man. if you do NOT avail of this God-given reprieve, you may be guilty of **"kufran-e-ne'mat"***.*

If women is nursing, she cant fast ? Does her fast break when she feeds the baby ?

Re: Travel Injections and Fasting

A detailed answer here:

Re: Travel Injections and Fasting

Dont need to keep a roza on the day of travel .. so if you get a injection on the day you travel .. solves all your problems ..simple as that..

yes you are allowed to miss the roza on the day .. and yes an injection does break the fasst no matter what ..either as medicine or nourishment.

Re: Travel Injections and Fasting

i STRONGLY DISAGREE with you on your verdict...roza deffo breaks if you take injections for whatever reason...one doesn't have to take something orally to invalidate the roza. prolly, you are taking a very westernized/liberal view of laws governing siyaam.

Re: Travel Injections and Fasting

I even heard that even for nourishment (in case you are going through real weakness), shots are allowed.

Re: Travel Injections and Fasting

no, it will not break her fast.

if she fears that fasting could make difficulty in breastfeeding then it is recommended to leave fasting.

Re: Travel Injections and Fasting

Peace uzzybuzzy,

Traveller are exempted to fast but they must fast after an equal number of other days. Allah SWT said in Surah Al Baqarah verse No. 185:

The month of Ramadhan [is that] in which was revealed the Qur’an, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion. So whoever sights [the new moon of] the month, let him fast it; and whoever is ill or on a journey - then an equal number of other days. Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship and [wants] for you to complete the period and to glorify Allah for that [to] which He has guided you; and perhaps you will be grateful.

Also, in hadith:
**Book ‘Fasting (Kitab Al-Siyam)’ of Sunan Abu-Dawud hadith No. 2402

Narrated Anas ibn Malik: A man from Banu Abdullah ibn Ka’b brethren of Banu Qushayr (not Anas ibn Malik, the well-known Companion), said: A contingent from the cavalry of the Apostle of Allah :saw2: raided us. I reached (for he said went) to the Apostle of Allah :saw2: who was taking his meals. He said: Sit down, and take some from this meal of ours. I said: I am fasting, he said: Sit down, I shall tell you about prayer and fasting. Allah has remitted half the prayer to a traveller, and fasting to the traveller, the woman who is suckling an infant and the woman who is pregnant, I swear by Allah, he mentioned both (i.e. suckling and pregnant women) or one of them. I was grieved for not taking the food of the Apostle of Allah (peace_be_upon_him).
