I use translucent powders all the time (on myself & others) and i’ve never had an issue with skin looking ghostly white in pictures. The key is to only use a little bit (as it’s to set the foundation, not to give more coverage) and buff it into your skin really well.
I like the MUFE one better than Laura Mercier. Kryolan also makes a really good one
