Translucent powder and desi skintones

So, do any of you ladies use translucent powders to set your foundation?? Does your face appear ashier overall with it and does your skin look ghostly white in flash photography( My worst nightmare)?! Any particular one thats your fave?? Right now I can’t decide between the MUFE or the Laura mercier one …

Re: Translucent powder and desi skintones

I use translucent powders all the time (on myself & others) and i've never had an issue with skin looking ghostly white in pictures. The key is to only use a little bit (as it's to set the foundation, not to give more coverage) and buff it into your skin really well.

I like the MUFE one better than Laura Mercier. Kryolan also makes a really good one

Re: Translucent powder and desi skintones

they're both the same, they just contain Silica so i'd say go for the cheaper (by the way, i'm selling the MUFE on my blog sale hum)

Re: Translucent powder and desi skintones

Pure Silica powder (MUFE HD, for example) will def. give a ghastly mask in flash photography. My favorite translucent powder is Laura Mercier’s Translucent Powder. It photographs amazing by giving a soft diffused look. I know Chanel’s Loose Powder also photographs very well. Just avoid any powders w/ SPF or Silica. The LM Translucent Powder doesn’t have any silica.

Re: Translucent powder and desi skintones

^right i see the one you're talking about, laura mercier have two loose setting powders, one that contains only silica (the white one) and one that has the usual ingredients (talc etc)

Re: Translucent powder and desi skintones

Im deffinately leaning towards the laura mercier one now and maybe I'll also grab MUFE's small $15 dollar jar just to try it out!

Re: Translucent powder and desi skintones

I use the Laura Mercier one, more then anything it just sets the foundation there's no colour to it. I just use a big powder brush to brush it all over my face then carry on with blush etc.x

Re: Translucent powder and desi skintones

what does setting the foundation mean? like how does the foundation look after it is set, i don't wear foundation or face powder b/c it's never looked right or looks made up and heavy, either the shade is off or my skin looks all dry after i used to put the powder on so i'm still shopping around for the right stuff

Re: Translucent powder and desi skintones

powder stops the foundation from budging......always set something creamy with a powder otherwise it will start creasing.x

Re: Translucent powder and desi skintones

What Colorful Eyes said, but also, if you use it correctly, it'll just be "sealed" and wont budge, will prevent oxidizing through out the day and will keep oils at bay too. And again, if used correctly it wont look like a dry cakey mess. It used to intimidate me also but once I played around w/ good quality powders, I realized what a difference it can make.

Re: Translucent powder and desi skintones

thanks y’all, i’m learning so much about good makeup here, a total makeup rookie, i haven’t read the face powder thread completely, how do you guys like MAC’s prep and prime finishing translucent powder?

has anybody tried it, it’s a bit more affordable compared to the laura mercier powder :bummer:, i’m trying to get the best fit good quality face powder that i can afford on a tight budget, that won’t look like a caked up mess(totally hated foundation and face powder makeup up in high school b/c of this reason) and this looks like a permanent winner for me since i think i’ve found a good foundation for my skin type. reviews anybody please?

Re: Translucent powder and desi skintones

I heard a lot of mixed reviews about that one^^

Re: Translucent powder and desi skintones

Another more affordable one is Coty Airspun Loose powder. It's a classic and people compare it to La Mer's loose powder b/c of the similar ingredients. It's less than $6-$7 in the US, not sure about where you are but it's in Canada as well.

Re: Translucent powder and desi skintones

Ooh I lov MAC's Prep and prime..

Re: Translucent powder and desi skintones

Is it super-mattifying^^??

Re: Translucent powder and desi skintones

i ended up buying the coty airspun loose powder since it is very close to the quality of la mer's powder and since i spent well over budget the last two months. the price is awesome and the translucent one seems to be the most perfect fit for me.

Re: Translucent powder and desi skintones

^YAY! That is awesome! It'll last you ages as well since the container is HUGE.
