Translation needed

Can someone please translate “Inna Lillahe Wa Inna Illahe Rajeoon”?

I need to know why we say it when someone dies.

Thanks.

It is from verse# 256, Surah Baqarah; it means: "To Allah we belong, and to Him is our return."

My understanding is that we say it when someone passes away, as a 'reminder' that every phase in life is under Allah's Will. He gives us life, and He takes it away from us as well.

Very nice.

Thankyou Nadia.

i think that's the first time someone said 'thank you' to me in this forum.

You're most welcome.

Assalamu Alaykum,

I believe Ms Nadia meant verse 156 and not 256.

The complete verse is as follows:

"Who, when a misfortune befalls them, say: Surely we are Allah's and to Him we shall surely return."

In my opinion, I believe this does not necessarily have to be limited to the occasions of death only, but rather can be said and believed in any difficult situation. Saying it at death is more of an Islamic custom that we follow.
