Transit visa

I am going to Pakistan through either Emirates or Etihad. Do I need transit visa for Abu Dhabi or Dubai for the stopover? I dont plan on leaving the airport. I’m a Pakistani national. Thanks.

Re: Transit visa

NO. If you do NOT leave the airport and your transit duration is less than 12 hours you would normally NOT need a transit visa thru most countries. i've flown thru Middle East and never was required to get a Transit Visa. Having said that, however, Saudi Arabia is an exception.

Re: Transit visa

Thank you

Re: Transit visa

it is 24 hours, Pakistani nationals are not allowed to board a plane if their transit is more than 24 hours and they dont have a UAE visa.

Same thing applies to Saudi, they dont ask for a transit visa if you are staying inside the airport but i am not sure what is the maximum number of hours you can stay in.

Re: Transit visa

^ you are correct. I confirmed it with Emirates.

Re: Transit visa

if you are not getting the lowest possible economy fair ticket (they call it saver ticket) and your transit in Dubai is more than 8 hours, they will give visa plus hotel. You need to remind your travel agent about it at the time of your booking (or Emirates if you are buying a ticket directly from them).

11:00 a.m flight from JFK arrives Dubai in the morning but Emirates flights to ISB and LHE depart at night time only, this is the scenario where you will need visa and hotel. Evening flight from JFK lands Dubai around 8:00 p.m and you may catch your ISB flight within next few hours thus requiring no transit stay or hotel. Plus there is also a transit hotel at Dubai airport but very expensive.

If you are flying Business/First class or a Gold member, you can go to Emirates lounges during your transit time at the airport. There is also a Marhaba lounge at Terminal 1 of Dubai airport. They charge around 80 Dhs i think and you can relax there during your transit time. Not sure if they also have shower facility like other business class lounges do but i guess they must have it.
