I will be at Heathrow Airport on Friday on my way to India. I have 8 hours time between my flight and was hoping to book a hotel ( if there is any) at Heathrow itself where I can go relax or grab a nap. Dont want to get into hassles of Visa and all and go out.
Do you know if there is any such facility at Heathrow?
I know Heathrow airport inside and out. There is no such thing as a hotel before hitting immigration in the airport. You will certainly need a visa and even if you did have a visa, it is not worth leaving the airport and going through the hassle of going to a hotel when you only have an eight hour wait. You'll spend at least 2 hours preparing yourself to get there, eat something, fall asleep and then you gotta be at the airport at least three hours before departure for your connecting flight. You'll probably end up only sleeping for about 2 hours at most and be lumped with a large hotel bill.
I did it on my way from Canada to Pakistan Via London - i have a British passport so Visa wasnt an issue, i had about 24 hours layover in London and checked into a hotel. I was so tired that i overslept and missed my connecting flight to Pakistan. Dont do it with only 8 hours!!!
Sofa or bench "zindabad". Firstly if u get a transit visa & ur stay is 7 hours 59 minutes the immigration wont let u out anyway. Secondly as mentioned above for 8 hours its not worth booking a hotel since u wont be sleeping at all. So just sleep on a bench or sofa or pay some extra & get executive lounge & sleep there peacefully.
i think u need a transit visa and the hotel must be close to the airport (but not in the airport). budget 2-3 hours for time spent in getting transit visa and travelling to and from the hotel and you really have 4-5 hours to catch a nap. its not bad ... take it if your airline is giving u the voucher...not worth paying for it yourself IMO
EXACTLY!!! Sofa and bench "zindabad"... I have slept on worse, in the past. Hell i used to be homeless! :-)
Yes yes... I am one of those hippy travellers who stays at hostels packed with pot smoking hippies! (Expect that there are no pot smoking hippies as that is very stereotypical of backpacker hostels - and I am a NON pot smoking hippy :-))

hey now, u are saying this as if being a pot smoking hippie is a bad thing sheesh. for all teh times I have spent at balmers, I am officialy offended :D
heathrow terminal 3 sucks when it comes to long waits. can't even lie down on one of those uncomfortable chairs, and ofcourse the gates won't be open until like an hr or so before boarding time.
do what i did...grab a seat, put your carry on under your feet, lean, and fall asleep. or stare at the travellers. that's always enjoyable.

Do you know of any US or the world for that matter airport where a hotel is located without going through the immigration for inbound passengers? Don't be a moron, I can't believe you have lived in NorCal for so many years.
Your best bet would be to buy a day pass at one of the Airline Club Lounges. They usually have nice comfortable sofas where you may stretch out and even take a refresher shower; log onto internet (I know you love to gupshup during transits) and watch big screen TV.
