one of my profs in my uni was transsexual. he was married and had children, then decided to become a woman when he was around 50. unfortunately he still looks like a man dressed like a woman, very similar to mrs. doubtfire, and his way of dressing doesn't help either because not many over 60 year olds dress and act the way he does. oprah had a few transgendered people on her show and a few of them were professionals and some of the "women" were very feminine looking.
seeing as how open our society is in the west, i don't think they are discriminated against as much as they might have been prior to the gay-rights activities. they are able to get married.
there was a issue in my town, they are forced by law to maintain their name and sex they were born with, thus preventing them from "same" couple marrage pre op and hetro marrage after.
Even simple things like which toilets they should use is a major hassel.
I think u are referrnig to hijrai< the people who are sexless ( i think)
I think it is very sad, however so far as I witnessed in Pakistan, there was a certain degree of tolerance there that is not usually extended to disadvantaged poeples
Code Red: No they cannot reproduce if they change their gender with an operation.
Still not certain if this thread is about hermaphrodites (born with both sexes) or about those who change from one sex to another (trans-sexuals).
Transsexuals come in two types - those who are pre-op (have the homone shots but not the operation so their front is the same as a woman and lower they are still man) and those who have had the operation (changed completely from man to woman). There are very very few cases of women becoming men, mostly men becoming women.
There are also crossdressers that can be gay or not, that dress like the opposite sex, but keep their own sex.
"how can u be of one sex or another but still have both? Doesn't having both make you a part of both sexes?"
Technically, you're right, but sometimes one or the other is more developed than the other and usually the parents decide whether they will raise a boy or girl usually after consultation with a doctor or an authority they feel comfortable with.
