An FTA always benefits us for our desire to increase exports. But the question is does anybody know anything about this FTA? Never heard of it before.

This is good.
Now we need to concentrate on improving tolerance towards foreigners and different religions and customs.
Otherwise no one would come into our shop, regardless of any FTA.

Pfft people still traded with Apartheid South Africa. So much for that idea. ![]()

I don't think so foreigners coming to Pakistan for sake of investments and trade are targeted in Pakistan...
Now coming down to the quality and lack of professionalism, excess of cheat and fraud in the trading and production activity are major hurdles in increasing exports from Pakistan.
Pakistani businessmen/traders are known for sending high quality samples and low quality products for the same sample... this is being the trademark of Pakistanies and if this practice and reputation is not changed then doesn't matter how many agreements Pakistan enter in, it is not going to make any change...
Keeping you words, delivering on time and keeping high quality standards are the key elements to win in International market...
Re: Trans-Pacific Economic Partnership Agreement
^ those are true and good points. However business people change and improve once a few of them lose contracts / monies due to such default and lack of quality. Yes it tarnishes the image of the country but right now there isn't a whole lot to get tarnished! So why not get that 'teething' over with when stakes are so low and hope it gets better?

I don't think Wal mart, Sears, Target executives are lining up for a flight to Karachi/Lahore.
What you say could be true for a small number of bad traders. However Pakistanis making shirts, pants etc. are not making substandard material destined for US/EU markets.
You gotta give a specific examples of where Pakistani manufacturers supplied below-specification goods.
this is all the more important for the top level execs form US/EU to be in Pakistan and be able to visit factories to see things first hand.
And you would living in fools world to believe that those high power execs feel as safe in Pak as they would in Dubai, singapore, Bombay, Bangalore, Shanghai, Tokyo, or Seol.
The worst thing that happened to Pakistani exports were the Talibots and the goons of MQM.
Karachi was the main destination for every Western airline and we squandered all those rights and privileges and let them slip out of our hands and into Dubai and Mumbai.
All thanks to our ethno-fascism and religio-fascism.
*I don't think Wal mart, Sears, Target executives are lining up for a flight to Karachi/Lahore. *
To be honest, i don't want them even near my country for atleast 20 more years, what are you upto, converting Pakistan into consumer economy...
I rather encourage locals to develop their own brands and franchise them... i don't know if you know the evils these and other franchises brings to Pakistan or any economy likes of Pakistan

What i say is applicable to relatively long list of exporters/traders, things might have improved, but Pakistani traders had enjoys the reputation of cheaters and fraud.. it may take some good long years to fix it...

What! you want me to quote the name of exporters/traders or what.. the practice is in almost all the sectors... that is the reason Chinese and Indian products have more credibility than Pakistani product..

They do that, that was how the fundamental of trade manufacturing in Sialkot changed and but the change was to relatively small

Can i ask you simple question, have you brought up in a family where it is habit to abuse ? don't take me wrong, the only way i can judge you is through your posts and normally you reflect the image of being brought up in a house where it is considered normal to abuse and use low level language like TU TUKAR..
now to answer you, where the hell have you got this idea that Pakistan is equivalent to the countries you mentioned.. i guess you try to hard.. please calm down and think again
The worst thing that happened to Pakistani exports were the Talibots and the goons of MQM.
The worst thing in the economic history of Pakistan, worse than Taliban, worse than MQM was nationalization policy of ZAB... in current days, worse thing is Power and energy cuts and huge increase in the cost of energy... which directly effect the price of the single unit in the international market....
Karachi was the main destination for every Western airline and we squandered all those rights and privileges and let them slip out of our hands and into Dubai and Mumbai.

Religious fanatics and ethnic terrorism does have its count but they are not the sole reason for it... India have burned An Australian priest alive, every single day a western/russian women get assaulted and/or raped in Goa... Dubai have some of the most laughable and ridiculous laws on the planet... the other day a couple was jailed a fine for kissing.... yet it is destination of almost every western airline... you need to ask y?
In early 90s, Intel ( some other chip manufacturer) wanted to put up their manufacturing plant in Pakistan the great leader Pakistan ever produced and Thanks to Talibots for killing her.. refused, the plant went to India, same with Mercedees...they also went to India... now that was just a start... had these two came and settled in Pakistan.. we might have not seen the talibot episode.. when people have money to spend and live, they try to avoid violence.. but when they don't have anything, then that violence comes out in the name of religious and ethnic grounds...

Yup things have changed and yes Pakistani exporters/traders have learned their lesson but it is little to late, as the market never waits for anyone, Chinese and Indians have dominated the market Pakistan should have... and as per the cost of energy it is bit difficult for Pakistani exporters to compete with Chinese and Indians products in terms of price.. what they can do is to upgrade the quality of their products and target different market sectors...
Re: Trans-Pacific Economic Partnership Agreement
^ there is always room for competition, particularly from low wage countries. You should look at the thread I opened about TATA in Columbia.
It is all about ideas combined with law & order. Without that how can the youth of a country engage itself?

That is right! look at Mongolia, they have huge huge potential.. Look at Tajikistan... i found a Bangladeshi Company trying for a contract their.. if they can.. then why not we can..
we should not limit our selves for selling products, getting contract for infrastructure development, mining and other things will contribute alot in terms of foreign exchange to Pakistan and in terms of strategic role of Pakistan...

Well that's true, but it pales in comparison to what we do to foreigners in Pakistan.
Instead of looking at the bad stuff of others, it is time to look at our bad stuff and try to remove it.
Westerners beam with anticipation when they get a chance to visit certain countries/regions in the world. India and Dubai, Ireland and France, or China and Japan are certainly some of those.
But Somalia, AFghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen, Sierra Leon, Congo etc. hardly make a Westerner's eyes shine.
And unfortunately just one thing keeps our beautiful country in this "eminent" list of hellholes: Religious-Tribalism.
