How important are they to you and which traditions in particular do you think should be maintained?
What are your reasons for thinking the way you do?

Re: Traditions..
I carry on all the traditions that I (or we as family) enjoy.
Jub tradition 'excess baggage' lagney lagey tu samjh loo k its time to dump it.
Re: Traditions..
*ALL good traditions must be maintained which are NOT against Islam. one of them being respect and hierarchy of the family members in particular and everyone else in general. *
Re: Traditions..
The red bit is one I have trouble getting my head around ![]()
Re: Traditions..
apne buzurgoN kii umr kii tarteeb se unkii 'izzat aur unke Hukm kii ta’meel karnaa [to respect elders and to follow their commands as long as they are NOT against Islamic beliefs] … got it?
Re: Traditions..
^I get that but I think even if they're not going against Islamic beliefs but still hurt others that's not right either (eg grandparent's last dying wish is for two cousins to marry.. or insisting they should be a doctor or something when the person in question doesn't want to)..

**ofcourse, that is wrong...i infringes upon ur right to choose a spouse...what i meant was day to day orders they give like fetch a glass of water, do this, do that...i take that as a way to serve our elders and earn sawaab...in serious matters, you have to look at the pros N cons of what they say...if you can do it then you should do it...if NOT, explain yourself with love and respect and politeness.
i believe a good parent/grandparent/siblings will NOT impose their wishes on their loved ones. i've never come across in my family, alHamdolillah!**
Re: Traditions..
in principle the two examples you gave also go against islam

Re: Traditions..
very interesting topic of discussion
im a bit unsure as to what traditions are you refering to. because traditions are carried out for generations or for a prolonged period of time hence called traditions. are they traditions in the culture? country? extended family? immediate family?
i suppose the word tradition in the context of this discussion to me seems to have a harmless meaning
Re: Traditions..
The one tradition that irritates the hell out of me is the whole thing with husband and wife being forced to wait for rukhsati before being able act as husband and wife. I wish I had gone against it more openly.

Aside from the marriage one, exactly how does "not wanting to be a dr" go against Islam?
Re: Traditions..
"insisting they should be a doctor or something when the person in question doesn't want to).."
'insisting' may possibly be against islam, 'not wanting to be a doc' is NOT against islam
get it?
