Traditional concepts concerning the birth of a baby?

Like some people believe that you shouldn’t let a cat near a newborn because it will suck the breath out of the infant. And different cultures have different customs regarding what the mother should eat or not eat, and what is to be done with the afterbirth and why (like burying it under a certain kind of tree, etc).

What are some of these types of beliefs among Pakistanis?

Re: Traditional concepts concerning the birth of a baby?

I think one of them is that for 40 days , the child is not taken out of the home and others are not encouraged to see the baby for fear that baby ko nazar lag jaye gi bi :hmmm:

Re: Traditional concepts concerning the birth of a baby?

Just give up the practice of giving honey to a newborn. Wait till after age 1 year or you risk poisoning your baby with botulism.

And moms no matter how much you may crave, dont eat foods like cabbage and broccoli in quantity unless you want a gassy screaming baby.

Re: Traditional concepts concerning the birth of a baby?

Ummmm, I don’t know any… my mom was here for my delivery when my daughter was born but she went about everything so normally… she didn’t tell me any :naraz:

And yeah, we didn’t give honey to the baby… I had already read up online that honey is dangerous for infants under 1 yr.

Re: Traditional concepts concerning the birth of a baby?

Some people don't let the mum shower for 40 days after delivery! Yikes!

Re: Traditional concepts concerning the birth of a baby?

Yikes for sure...but heck then again, she also doesnt have to do any housework or ANYthing! I just might be able to deal with that.

OMG!!! NO WAY… thats totally disgusting, I cannot imagine how my hair would become if I didn’t take a shower for 40 days… and will probably smell bad too :disgust:
