So my neice who was born just a week ago has a problem with her tounge, docs have said shes tounge tied so therefore could have speech problems in future and maybe even dyslexia (Allah reham kare)…they say the solution is that a little cut should be made under her tounge (as she has some extra mass stopping her tounge coming up higher) and that should help the issue a bit
Due to this shes having problems drinking her milk, has problems trying to cry
anyone had any experience of this? and what is the resolution to this? can it cause problems for the child later?
There are a couple of people in our family that had this problem. They had the little cut done and all was fine. If you raise your tongue and look underneath you can see that thin strip of skin that attaches your tongue to the bottom of your mouth. In tongue-tie, that strip is too tight and keeps the tongue tied down. The cut they make gives it the ability to move normally.
Hmm yes thats what the doctors have suggested but sister was unsure if its worth doing it or not....so it seems it should resolve the problem inshallah...many thanks for your input :)
Tabu, yes its very upsetting to have a new baby and find out that she'll need surgery, even if its minor! It is actually a very minor thing to repair and well worthwhile. Especially since this thing interferes with eating and crying. If its left there, it will interfere with speech too because her tongue cant move.
Its a really tough thing to have an infant go thru surgery! But will help her very much.
My eldest had two surgeries before age 2!! He had hernias that needed surgical repair. I was an absolute wreck ... he on the other hand, was bouncing on the hospital bed joyfully an hour after surgery and never complained of pain! He was back to his normal little self within hours!
My little sister was born with a tied tongue, and doctors said from the beginning that is is better to let it cut because she could face speeach problems etc.
But none of it happened.
she started speaking when she was 10 months aur hamare kaan kha liya karti thi
Yup, dyslexia has absolutely nothing to do with it...being tongue tied is a physical problem that limits the range of motion of the tongue. There are varying degrees of severity, sometimes it doesnt interfere much at all with eating or oral-motor skills and sometimes it can interfere to the point that the baby cant eat much.
Dyslexia is a problem with how the brain perceives written images. Dyslexics see them backwards or upside down. The two things have nothing to do with each other.
