Re: Toronto
Kid-friendly places: Ripley's Aquarium; Centre Island (kiddie amusement park, but if you don't want to do the amusement park, taking the ferry to the other islands and biking around it is nice - you can even rent tandem bikes!); Chinatown; Harbourfront.
Desi-friendly restaurants - obviously there are TONS of halal desi restaurants, but if you want other cuisine, one of my favourites is Sukhothai. There's also Eddy's Wok and Roll (but that's a drive to Mississauga - though possibly worth it. In downtown itself, there is Paramount (Middle Eastern Food). I haven't been, but a lovely friend was telling me there is a place called the Burgernator in downtown as well. Look up Bamiyan - they've locations throughout and as the name suggests, it's Afghani.
Re: Toronto
I have been to Canada once before, we were recommended 'Gerrard Street'. I cant remember the name of the restaurant but they had these kautheh who would walk around with the food still cooking on metal dishes (basically spreading the aroma) before bringing it to your table. I found this very strange and somewhat pathetic to be honest. I was quite young then, but even at that age mera bara dil si keh lath mara.
Re: Toronto
Indian = not necessarily halal though......must check.
Gerard Street is now like an abandoned town, lol. Used to be something famous but now it is mostly deserted.
Empty shops with shopowners just surfing/watching tv.
Some restaurants are busy, but most just struggling these days. Not recommended
Re: Toronto
Best restaurants:
Toronto/Scarborough:
Karachi kitchen, silverspoon, patna kebab house, lahore tikka house, Shaheen Tikka
not sure why people keep saying Bamiyan, they serve sukkay chawal with 1or 2 kebabs, not something Pakistanis can eat.
We don't eat sukkay chowl you know
Re: Toronto
