Toronto - what to see and do

Re: Toronto - what to see and do

With 2 yo kid, I'd say drop Casa Loma and add Centreville. Centre Island has fun for kids and adults

Re: Toronto - what to see and do

Halal steaks/Italian food sounds good.So is this Kara Mia really good..?I think I have herad about it.

Re: Toronto - what to see and do

Centreville for sure...!

Re: Toronto - what to see and do

they have one of the best steaks I ever had in North America (including NY, LA, TX, Chicago etc). Their other food is also good (pasta, rosemary chicken etc etc)

also I'd strongly recommend Bamiyan Kabab for Afghan food

Re: Toronto - what to see and do

omg....I can't believe you said that.
we'll have to feed you a really good steak one day cuz if you like THAT then you haven't eaten my friend.
I've heard that Affie's is better than Kara Mia for steak but I'm still not convinced that any desi place can do a good one.
I prefer to pre-order Halal from Ruth's Chris'.

definitely agree about the pasta at Kara Mia though.....not bad.
and I love Bamiyan.......I could eat there everyday.

chips,
when are you in town?
we are headed to centre island tomorrow......

Re: Toronto - what to see and do

^^^ I was going to say that too Muzna.. Kara Mia steaks really the best?? I wouldn't be too sure about that. I've tried it and it was okay.

Re: Toronto - what to see and do

Ditto!

Ruth Chris and the Braised Bull are far better for steaks! Kara Mia and Affy's both don't know how to prepare the steak as anything less that well-done. Actually more than well-done, I'd say overdone!

Re: Toronto - what to see and do

Once you eat at Ruth Chris...there is no going back to Kara Mia.
I wouldn't even call it a steak...they just pan fry the steak and it hardens..
At Affy's I have tried their stuffed Chicken Cajun which i loved, other then that the beef steak looked exactly same as Kara Mia so I didn't even bother ordering.

Re: Toronto - what to see and do

Hmmm...So many mixed reviews for kara Mia.Would love to try steaks because we do not have any such place her where we live.

@Muzna...We will be in Toronto around the first week of July (the weekend before 4th of July)

Re: Toronto - what to see and do

oh boy....that's a busy time all 'round......let us know if you are interested in having a meal together....
would be a pleasure!

Re: Toronto - what to see and do

Thanks for the offer,it would be great. Will let you know for sure if anything changes,so far it is just one day in Toronto and we are still planning to figure it out...:)
And I agree it is going to be a busy time..!

Re: Toronto - what to see and do

:bummer:

nay. I have tried Affie’s couple of times, It was not as good as KM

My review was based on “…one of the best I ever had…” I can not compare it to the one I never had

I have yet to try Ruth Chris though. do they make halal on request or …?

Re: Toronto - what to see and do

Yup you have to call them minimum 2 days prior and request Halal steak.

Re: Toronto - what to see and do

What is special about Gerrard street...?
For those who live in Toronto and might have an idea what Jackson heights (NY) is,is Gerrard street and the shops/restaurants there worth a visit...?Any recommendations..?
I do not find anything appealing about Jackson heights and am not too keen of visiting it whenever we are in NY,so if Gerrard is something like that we might not visit.
Will appreciate replies...:)

Re: Toronto - what to see and do

I'll take you up on that Muzna whenever we finally hit Toronto, inshallah ;)

Re: Toronto - what to see and do

Yo there is one in Brampton i believe by Steeles or something. Halal place..they have awesome steaks!! I forgot the name of it..

Re: Toronto - what to see and do

there really is nothing special about Gerard Street except perhaps the food at Lahore Tikka.....and that too if you are into fast food desi style.... I'd skip it.

@khattichic -- it would be an honor and a pleasure to enjoy a steak dinner with you guys......

@Xtron -- so awesome that you forgot the name of it huh?
