Hii , I’m new here but wanted to ask for some help with my wedding in July. Ive seen some halls already (mississauga, brampton) and the guy asked who was decorating and suggested I get it sorted out soon as decorators, florists get booked quickly.
I searched online and on the gs forums but not sure how to go about it. i’ll call a few people this weekend incl. nafisa and someone called preeti(?) that iwas referred but wondering if anyone can give any tips on what to ask, what budget to expect, etc. its going to be a simple wedding with 200 people but i;ll need the stage made. My family, friends can help with tables but i think it might be easier going with one person. any ideas, advice would be great. thx.
also, yes, you need to get your skates on! if your wedding is in july which is prime wedding season, then you’re narrowing down your available options by leaving it so late.
hey thx a bunch, i've been on the phone all day organizing things and feel I now need a wedding planner too!! I'm going to make some more calls tomorrow, spoke to a few decorators today and a couple were pretty cool, will post a status update soon, thanks again!
ok i spent the better part of sunday calling around, wow itss not easy getting a hold of most of these people!! anyway, I left messages with a few and will be meeting midhu of diya decor and amna from lemon truffle tomorrow. i still have to call a few more people but want to finalize asap! ok that was my quick status update i;ll post again after my meetings.
btw, does anyone know what wedding day coordination is? i heard from a friend that decorators do this too but what does this include? and how much do they charge for it? If I have the decoration.flowers done, why do i still need day of coordination or is it like a wedding planner?
Hi Meharh - just got married in March in the GTA and hired Jyoti Decor. Was beyond thrilled with the results. I don’t have my professional photog’s pics yet, but do have some that family took ourselves. The price was half of what other “good decor” folks such as Diya Decor were charging. He did the stage backdrop, stage draping, podium, cake table, receiving table, walkway and archway all for $850 (including the rentals for the floral on the stage and pillars for the walkway and some crystal pieces). PM if you’re looking for contact info or to see some pics. If you go to a higher-end decor company, they might have more selection and inventory, but trust me you will also pay for this.
Don’t go by the pics on his website: (http://www.jyotidecor.com/) alone - when you set up a meeting with him at his house, he has a folder containing hundreds of pics. The halls he works in most often are Woodbine, Chandni, Candles, etc. but can transform any space to be beautiful
Hi nezzii, thanks for the suggestion. I met with amna (http://www.lemontruffle.com) and she was really cool, she showed me some of her work and i really liked her sense of style. anyway, she will get back to me with a few ideas. i left voicemails with a lot of other people but haven’t heard back yet. I think i might just visit the bridal shows this month, i think the naseeb show is on april 10. i’d love to see some pics that jyoti decor did for your wedding, can you post a link? i visited their site and it didn’t look great but i’d love to get an idea of their work before going to visit. thks again!!

wedding day coordination is basically the same as day-of planning. your planner would be responsible for coordinating all of your vendors and would be there from morning to night to ensure everything was set up properly and all itineraries/schedules were adhered to. they will also ensure all your vendors are working well together, and are paid at the end of the night according to your contract, and if you have vases or other items that need to be returned to vendors, they'll collect them and clean up at the end of the night along with the venue's staff to ensure nothing gets left behind or lost.
most established planners will charge around $800-$1000 for day-of coordination. they will meet with you at least several times prior to your wedding to acquire all the necessary and relevant information from you to ensure your day goes smoothly and hassle-free, for you and your family especially.
it can be an invaluable service if you want to make sure you don't have to worry about anything- just show up and party! a lot of people will designate close friends or family to these duties but really, in a way, thats not fair because they'll be working instead of enjoying themselves and sometimes people flake out which could end up being a problem for you if things get missed or aren't done on time. if you have the budget, its definitely worth looking into spending that cash!
thanks sgc, the wedding coordination sounds like a great idea although i dont think i'll have enough in my budget to affordd it :( anyway, i will check with the decorators to see if they can do some of the coordination too, i'm meeting a cuple more people this weekend, i will let everyone know what i decide. i want to visit the naseeb show befre making a decision!
