we placed an ad in the u of t faculty of music and we scored three musicians for $450, which is an amazing price. all the guys were semi-pro and were trained musicians, so their sound was fab.
we had a guitarist, a saxophonist and a bass player. i can give you their info if you want, pyari, they were really good. and if you give them a heads up, they'll play whatever style you want - we went with light jazz since i wanted an upbeat feeling although some of the classical pieces just make me tear right up.
as for the dj, ours was great- his info is in my first post up there- he was just so extremely good at mixing and he set a good rhythm and got everyone on the dance floor. he was $600 for the evening.
u can never go wrong with vijdan and shirley and dimple.... they did my photography, makeup and mehndi and it was worth every penny. for video i went with KPstudios... and i recently got my dvds back and they were awesome.

For Photography Im going with Shankar.. he's worked ALOT with Vijdaan and is doing both video and pix in 3000 for mehndi, baraat and walima. We jst got a digital album and everything else on CD format with two 16x20 and two 11x14 enlargements.
Makeup, im getting done from Shirley. My friend didnt have such a good experience wth Dimple Shah wrt to makeup.. apparently she (my friend) was crying on the way to the valima reception because it was soo poorly done. I've heard that Dimple Shah overbooks Clients, and doesnt really give you the time that you deserve.. but I personally havent had anything done from her myself.. but this was good enough reason for me to not go with her.
We're getting all the flower garlands and petals ordered from laila ahmed.. she gives buckets of petals and is making the gajre and haar for us , as well as all my mehndi stuff..
The decor on the baraat and valima is being done by Usha, shes the decorator for woodbine banquet where we're having both events.
I think shankar was one of the guys working with vijdan too...
And whoaa thats' so weird abt Dimple... i had her for both days of makeup and mehndi and she was pretty patient with me and did my makeup properly and all. that really sucks for ur friend :(
haan i know.. i was originally going with Dimple too because Shirley wasnt available for the dates that i needed.. but then when i heard this i cancelled all the trials and apptments.. because my friend really did look flustered at her valima reception.. but shirleys amazing.. im really lookin forward to having my makeup done by her..
wow that is weird about dimple..i have a trail appointment with her..now im gonna reconsider it. Also, wow buckets of flowers and gajras..who did those for you??
I found another place that does DJ and Video..they are called Max corp and they specialize in Pak/Indian weddings.

Max Corp SUCKS.. and im being very very BLUNT.. we had to actually run after them for sooooo long.. they never had the courtesy to call us back once.. we got a reply to the initial email they sent us and then theyd keep sending us emails to confirm whether we would have them as DJ's and when we asked them for samples they'd never email us back.. believe me huny.. you dont want to go through that.. I have another DJ that I contacted his name is Romel and he's really good.. his samples were good and hes really good at getting back to you on time and he's very very reasonable aswell. he quoted us 700 for all three days including the lighting etc. which was awesome when compared to other DJ's.
We got buckets of flower petals from Laila Ahmed, her number is 905-814-7726. She is doing all the work wrt to the flowers for the wedding.
For Makeup I'd really recommend Shirley Wu.. shes soo amazing.. I had bookd my apptment for the valima to be ready for 6 whereas the photographer is gna be ready for 5 and i called her up and she accomodated me right away, and shes kept intouch with me throughout. Totally depends on you though!
