Toronto/Mississauga Wedding Venues

Hey guys,

I’m getting married November 2015 and have started looking for venues right now (just set the date).
I’m interested in the usual ones in Mississauga like Apollo, Versailles and Mississauga Convention Center since they’re all ten minutes away from my home.

I just had a couple of questions since I’m a complete beginner and have never been involved in any wedding planning, even for family members or friends.

Anyways, I guess I’m looking for basic reviews on the overall experience at these halls. I’d like to know what the cost may have been per person if you’ve gotten married at any of these recently as well as any tips you may have when booking venues in general. Also when picking halls are there any particular questions I should ask the management before booking beforehand?

Re: Toronto/Mississauga Wedding Venues

all 3 halls are expensive ones but you should be fine since you are getting married in November (off season). You can save more if you are getting married on a Weekday and not Friday/Saturday.

There are couple of things you should put a lot of attention
- Food package (appetizers etc)
- Lighting package
- Any Service charges
- Would they provide any screen for video
- Would they provide center pieces, table cloths, chair covers

I have been to all of these halls and here are my $0.02
- Apollo, it gave me so much corporate look. So if you are going there, you gotta be very picky on your decor. It has white lights and no "Desi" style chandeliers so your decor people need to take care of that
- Versailles ... Its good.
- Mississauga Convention Center, I would chose Apollo over MCC

Also, try visiting Grand Empire.

Re: Toronto/Mississauga Wedding Venues

Hey I am getting married in November this year as well and let me tell you it’s not that cheap anymore. Versailles is still charging me the price they charged my sister when she got married in July. And my reception is on a Sunday, so Saturday is probably $20 more. So avoid booking any halls for Saturday and yes it’s a piss off but there are additional charges for everything. Such as using the projector and screen.

And they have only 1 set halal package for food which does include appetizers. Versailles now uses the Safari chairs not the old banquet style ones, so no chair covers needed, so that’s a plus.

And for my baraat day I booked the Grand Empire, their food packages vary so silver, gold and diamond and they are the same price year round. My friend is getting married there in June and she is paying the same price I am in November. They also use the new safari chairs so no chair covers are needed, and they do provide you with a calendbra centre piece, but you have to purchase your own candles (the event planner for the hall will provide you with the details). The huge setback I experienced for Grand empire is that they have in built speakers through a entertainment company Empire Sound, so you are not allowed to bring it your own sound system (just a DJ), and you can’t hire another company to provide you with lights. So just to use their sound its $400- $600 depending on which hall you get Hall A or Hall B. And projector is $900 ($600 for screens, $300 technician fee).

Both halls do provide basic table cloths, anything fancy you have to pay.

You can email me if you want any additional details, I have checked out mostly all halls in Toronto as 2 of my older siblings got married here as well. My email is [EMAIL="[email protected]"][email protected], I can help you save some $$, as my sister is a henna artist so knows many vendors (photography, videography, cake etc.) - and on the halls :).

And I agree Apollo has a really modern corporate look and it’s also owned by the guy who owns Versailles, and since its newer, the prices are higher.

And keep in mind they allll charge HST now !

Re: Toronto/Mississauga Wedding Venues

I have been to weddings at Grand Empire and was considering it for my own but am glad that I didn't the reason why is because the food was awful. The hall itself is beautiful but I would recommend a separate caterer if you decide to go with them.

The reality of the hall you choose is that everyone will care more for food at your wedding more than anything else. I have heard the same experience with food at grand empire from other people as well. I would recommend apollo, mississauga convention center, woodbine, versailles and candles for food. I had my wedding at Markham Convention Center which was also bbeautiful and the food was amazing. I would stay clear of chandni as well. I had my mmehdnithere and the food made everyone sick. The only decent part of the food was the appetizers.

Re: Toronto/Mississauga Wedding Venues

Thanks everyone for your input! We ended up going with Mississauga Convention. Although it was more expensive than the other venues and we will be hiring outside catering, the venue is just on a different level than Apollo and Versailles. I visited all three back to back and you can clearly see why they charge extra. I'm pretty pleased with our decision and here's hoping their service stands up to their name.
