Hi all,

A couple of us are planning to meet in mid-May. I wanted to check everyone’s availability before we decide on a date and venue. So how does a weekend patio lunch in downtown sound?

Also, let’s hear some suggestions on halal food places in the area (preferably with a patio…it’s been a long winter!).

I am expecting at least the following people to show up:

I can’t think of many halal patio restaurants.

I think given the crowd, the preference would be halal, right? In that case, there’s Sukhothai or Paramount. As far as patios - I tend to frequent the ones in the financial district - but there may be some Middle Eastern halal ones in North York/Richmond Hill - I can’t think of any in downtown.

Oh, I can do a Saturday, not a Sunday.

Two questions: 1) Scherbatsky - really? 2) why does it have to be a patio?

No idea about any restaurants in Toronto because never went there :(. I’m a cheapskate who used to go to Karachi kitchen and Biryani King every weekend for a $5 biryani.

Sunnybrook park at Leslie and Eglinton. Everyone bring food and cutlery, samosay kabab etc nothing too fancy. Sunshine ki sunshine, patio ka patio. Aur downtown ki jhanjhat bhee nahi. Just a suggestion.

Sunnybrook park at Leslie and Eglinton. Everyone bring food and cutlery, samosay kabab etc nothing too fancy. Sunshine ki sunshine, patio ka patio. Aur downtown ki jhanjhat bhee nahi. Just a suggestion.

Then i would have to first buy cutlery and buy food .. :( going to restaurant is way better option.

Have we decided which weekend? Given that May 17th-19th is the Victoria Day/May 2-4 long weekend and some of us may have out-of-town plans, I suggest that we schedule the meetup for the previous weekend - May 10th or 11th.

Muzna, you have been to a few GS meetups, haven't you? Where did you all meet? Do you recommend any places?

I think everyone whom I mentioned in the original post, said they were okay with Mid-May. So May 10 or 11th should be fine with most people. But maybe I'll PM everyone to remind them again to keep that weekend free.

Is there anyone that I missed? Is somegroovychick from Toronto?

yes....I have been to a few GS meet ups in the past 15 years.....
most times we have met at a desi/halal restaurant so that there are no issues with food.

I'm sure that anything you all agree upon will be fine as long as you get firm commitment and as long as you continue to remind people of their commitment.

And yes...SGC is from Toronto.
