toronto caterers help

guys, i’m looking for caterers for a valima, outside of silver spoon and the host/cuisine of india. we want pakistani food, specifically, not indian.

went to tandoori culture in pickering and wasn’t impressed at all- the food was just ok, nothing special, and not valima-worthy for sure.

am visiting tandoori time tonight. has anyone eaten there? would you recommend it?
is there anywhere else?

Re: toronto caterers help

^ Tandoori tim is our caterer at Eid dinners. We also had them do the catering at my nikah. Their food is good...I don;t love their biryani. I would opt for the pulao instead. The seekh kabab, fish, butter chicken, lamb korma, karahi gosht are all good.

Re: toronto caterers help

local toronto urdu newspapers have several resturant ads for catering servies. They even have menus and prices listed. You might want to check it out.

Have you tried Karachi Kitchen (Choudary Mateen)? My uncle caters from there and their food was not bad at all.

Re: toronto caterers help

^ agreed, I had food catered from Karachi Kitchen at my wedding, and everyone loved it! Definitely something you can look into. :)

Personally, I don't like Tandoori Time's food at all and, therefore, would not recommend it.

Do pick up Urdu/Pakistani newspapers from Indian/Pakistani grocery stores. You'll find many advertisements of Pakistani caterers in there.

Good luck!

Re: toronto caterers help

A few years ago, I attended a mehndi party at a Pakistani restaurant in Missisauga that had the largest buffet selection that was totally phenomanal. I forget the name and don't know if they catered.

Re: toronto caterers help

just got back from tandoori time on albion. i really liked their food, actually, and the owner is a friend of a friend so he gave us a great deal. yay! thank you all for your reco's.
as an fyi, there are 4 tandoori times- the one on albion and the one in maple are both owned/supervised by the guy who runs the entire show. the mississauga one and their one other location are franchises and apparently their food isn't that great because they don't follow the franchise rules very well in terms of following recipes, etc.

Re: toronto caterers help

^^ SGC I'm debating between karchi kitchen and tandoori time. Can you please tell me how much Tandoor Time charged you per head and what was included?

Thanks!

Re: toronto caterers help

Re: toronto caterers help

Thanks Libran.. except I'm looking for a caterer for my wedding - about 250 ppl.

Re: toronto caterers help

Tandoori Time on Albion charged us $16 per head and it included:

apps:
fried fish
veggie cocktail samosas

mains:
paneer jalfrezi
chicken tikka masala
achar gosht
lamb biryani

desserts:
khoya kulfi- this was a HUGE hit with our guests
kheer

we also had 3 salads, 2 raitas, achar, and of course naan.

the catering was excellent. Waseem came himself to the location and supervised everything. the food was a huge, huge hit overall and really, isn't that one of the best parts of a desi wedding? :)
the menu can vary based on your requirements but definitely go meet him. he's very professional and a pleasure to deal with. also, their presentation was very nicely done.
