torn

Not much being conveyed in the picture. You actually had to be there, when i shot this picture, to grasp the idea. This one was at a community picnic my folks arranged last summer.

Anyways so this ice cream truck shows up and all kids run towards it. This little soul however hesitates. He walks towards the truck succumbing naturally to the charm of the ice cream bell. At the same time though part of his reality slows down his pace. He doesnt have any money to buy any ice cream nor does he have any brother sister cousin or friend who he can rely on to buy him one. He knows due to all this it will be useless going there and making a fool out of himself. His parents are too busy socializing to even have a glimpse of his longing gaze at the ice cream truck. Five or so minutes later the truck leaves and he is finally able to resume his nothingness in his solitary world.

I keep getting drawn back to this picture time and again. Maybe its my own childhood that I see in this kid. Deja Vu?

**** chee! thats pretty well put. as a kid, i have been in this situation innumerable times, with no pocket money, surrounded by friends sucking on "sip-ups" (frozen colored sweet liquid in plastic tubes). once the diary-booth-wala told my dad this chap always comes by but never buys anything..

Ahhh bless, did you take this pic? If so, why u not buy him some ice cream? The poor kid would have loved and remembered you all his life, as the guy who 'bought me an ice cream when i had no money'. Knowing you you probably still don't have the money to buy ice cream even now, do you?

I don't now about you, but when I was a little my parents used to tell me never to go anywhere with a stranger...

Cheegum, that's an amazing picture, which captures the moment perfectly. It's dead weird the way you can't see his face, but can picture the yearning in his eyes.
