what are usually the symptoms..? is there lots of pain associated with it, or just numbness..?
I've known people to have torn liagaments and still continue working out, so can only assume that it's not a continuous pain.
yeah that's what i thought too..gracias
Just to add, a lot depends on how badly damaged the liagament is. Severe tears can require surgery and carrys a recovery time of around 6 months. Whereas a slight strain can usually let you carry on as normal.
Glucosamine is an excellent supplement to take if you have problems with your knees.
I did my knee in playing football. I couldn't play for a couple of months but found a knee support helped when I felt it was strong enough to start playing again. These are usually made of strong elastic and take a lot of the strain off the knee.
I have no idea whether any ligaments were torn btw, but the knee was weak for sure.
torn is pretty bad !!! believe me i had two cousins who messed up their knees, one playin basketball the other squash.. both needed surgery and that came with a 6 months atleast physical therapy.. where as i torn up my shoulder ligament which took one year to recover.. bruised on the other hand will hurt quite a bit and joint movement can get restrictive depending on what muscles is effected.. always a good idea to stop right where you are when you feel pain and consult a physician.. believe me it pays in the long run and its not worth pushing urself and thinking you can take it.. some ppl learn it the hard way.. dont be one of us.. :)
go to your doc and have it checked...
your thigh and lower leg muscles offer alot of support to the knee that even if the ligaments are torn..you can often function
thanks a bundle, much appreciated, I have pretty much been able to carry on, except that it's bothersome. I have tried stretching, but the slight pain lingers on. I really don't know if it's a tear or some ligament just got worn off due to stress, and I have been avoiding to see a doctor just to find that out..i think support is a good idea, i may try that for few days, to take some of the pressure off while workin out..i am hopin that it should take care of it..
hmmm?
well, it depends on how you hurt it? what were u doing when you first felt something happened to your knee?
did you hear a pop?
and what you need to do for your knee really depends on which one of the ligaments you might have torn.
an posterior or lateral ligaments are the worst ones to damage and require immediate attention; as opposed to the anterior or medial ligament.
but in any case, you should really lay off of that knee. give it plenty of rest, ice it if its swollen, keep it elevated when you sit.
and if the symptoms don't improve then you should go see a sports medicine person. they are usually great with sports related injuries (if thats how you injured yourself).
outy, first hand experience, get it checked out b4 it gets worse!
i had put it off for a couple of yrs and kept up all my physical activity as usual, and it worsened a lot more during that time...ended up havin 2 surgeries, one for the inner and outer miniscus, and one for the ACL...its not fun...took me a while to recover from both...esp the ACL...now i do have my knee movement back and can do whatever i used to b4 as well, just that i can't bend my knee all the way...its missing a few degrees angle when its bent compared to the other one...and not to mention that it still acts up once in a while...a bad jerk movement/slip etc and it'll start hurtin for a day or 2...
get it checked out man...and yea, the support is a good idea in the meantime...
thanks, i did manage to muster enough courage to go and see a doctor, i was just afraid of finding out something messed up, but it's what they call it grade1 sprain; the mildest of all..it requires some physio therapy over the next few weeks, but, inshallah i am able to go on as normal..
zidee, i just don't know how it happened, i am guessing while comin downhill, since it's quite tough on knees, and one of the things i have noticed is that when your body is hot, unless it's a very serious injury, you don't really feel it, until it cools down or a day later..anyway, was really stressed out yesterday, and many thanks again for all the input..

i'm glad to hear that it was just a sprain.
that should be fine. you know our poor knees take so much daily and we neglect them...but once the knees give out...we are out of commission. so its important to take care of your knees.
and you are right, a lot of times we don't realize the injury, especially if its while you are playing a sport...because of the adrenaline. you don't feel the pain.
anyhow, i'm glad you are going to be fine.
adrenaline<<
my favorite word in the whole world...i think i sweat in adrenaline..thanks to mom and dad..tehehee..
