Re: Torment in Graves
You have to be an excellent denier of hadith if you need to deny torment in graves for wrong doers.

I think these people call themselves as Ahl-e-Quran and dont believe in Hadees. Well, its not that they dont beleive in it, but think that its tainted enough, not to believe in it anymore, and Quran is enough for guidance.

Actually Qabar ka Azaab makes sense, because on the day of judgement, Allah might forgive you. So azaab-e-qabar is surety that if you did the crime, you will be doing the time.

Re: Torment in Graves
Peace All,
**Al-Qur’an [40:46]
**
The Fire, they are exposed to it morning and evening. And the Day the Hour appears [it will be said], “Make the people of Pharaoh enter the severest punishment.”
Book ‘Invocations’ of Sahih Bukhari, Hadith No. 388.
Narrated 'Aisha: The Prophet used to say, 'O Allah! I seek refuge with You from the affliction of the Fire, the punishment of the Fire, the affliction of the grave, the punishment of the grave, and the evil of the affliction of poverty. O Allah! I seek refuge with You from the evil of the affliction of Al-Masih Ad-Dajjal, O Allah! Cleanse my heart with the water of snow and hail, and cleanse my heart from all sins as a white garment is cleansed from filth, and let there be a far away distance between me and my sins as You made the East and West far away from each other. O Allah! I seek refuge with You from laziness, sins, and from being in debt."
The above verse contains one of the major proofs used by the Ahlus-Sunnah to prove that there will be torment in the grave during the period of ‘Al-Barzakh’, it is the phrase: “The Fire, they are exposed to it, morning and afternoon”. But the question arises:
This verse was undoubtedly revealed in Makkah, but they use it as evidence to prove that there will be torment in the grave during the period of Al-Barzakh.
Imam Ahmad recorded from Aisha r.a. that a Jewish woman used to serve her, and whenever Aisha r.a. did her a favor, the Jewish woman would say, “May Allah save you from the torment of the grave.”. Aisha r.a. said, "Then the Messenger of Allah came in, and I said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, will there be any torment in the grave before the day of resurrection?’
He
said: ‘No, who said that’?
I said, 'This Jewish woman, whenever i do her a favor, she says: May Allah save you from the torment of the grave."
He
said: 'Teh Jews are lying, and they tell more lies about Allah. There is no torment except on the day of resurection.
Then as much time passed as Allah willed should pass, then one day He
came out at midday, wrapped in his robe with his eyes reddening, calling at the top of his voice:
“The grave is like patches of dark night! O people, if you knew what I know, you would weep much and laugh little. O people, seek refuge with Allah from the torment of the grave, for the torment of the grave is real.”
The chain of narration in Sahih according to the conditions of Al-Bukhari and Muslim, although they did not record it.
It was said, ‘How can this report be reconciled with the fact that the verse was revealed in Makkah and the verse indicates that there will be torment during the period of Al-Barzakh?’
The answer is that the verse refers to the souls (of Pharaoh’s and his people) being exposed to the fire morning and evening; it does not say that the pain will affect their bodies in the grave. So it may be that this has to do specifically with their souls. With regard to there being any effect on their bodies in Al-Barzakh, and their feeling pain as a result, this is indicated in the Sunnah, in some hadiths.
It was said that this verse refers to the punishment of the disbelievers in Al-Barzakh, and that it does not by itself imply that the believer will be punished in the grave for his sins. This is indicated by the Hadith recorded by Imam Ahmad from Aisha r.a. according to which the Messenger of Allah
entered upon Aisha r.a. when a Jewish woman was with her, and she (the Jewish woman) was saying “I was told that you will be tried in the grave”.
The Messenger of Allah
was worried and said: “Only the Jews will be tested”.
Aisha r.a. said, "Several nights passed, then the Messenger of Allah
said: “Verily you will be tested in the grave.”
Aisa r.a. said: “After that, the Messenger of Allah
used to seek refuge with Allah from the torment of the grave.”
This was also recorded by Muslim.
It could be said that this verse indicates that the souls will be punished in Al-Barzakh, but this does not necessarily imply that the bodies in their graves will be affected by that.
When Allah revealed something about the torment of the grave to His Prophet
he sought refuge with Allah from that.
The hadiths which speak of the torment of the grave are manys.
Qatadah said, concerning the verse (morning and afternoon), means every morning and every evening, for as long as this world remains, it will be said to them by way of rebuke and humiliation, O people of Pharaoh, this is your position."
Almighty Allah knows best.

Re: Torment in Graves
I have a big question related to this topic, I do believe in it
but since so many cases of dead bodies being stolen from graves being eaten and raped inside the grave came up, my belief is fading in this. They say as soon as the body is left with the grave the angles come and start with questions, snakes, Scorpios come in the grave, then how come people are able to dig up the graves in the middle of night and steal them and also rape them inside the grave.
Since i have heard that females got rapped inside graves, i feel like burning body …![]()
Re: Torment in Graves
I don't understand why are these such big issues. One thing is certain and every muslim believe in it and that is people will reap in the afterlife what they have sown in this world. then why does it matter that how will that happen? There are people who get drowned or die in bomb blasts or air crashes and nothing is left of them then there are people who are cremated but each one of them will be judged according to his deeds whether he gets a grave or not so why wasting your brain cells on such non-issues.
Allah is not unjust so no one will get more punishment than what he deserves and His mercy knows no bounds. so leave this idle talk and concentrate on making your lives worthwhile.
Re: Torment in Graves
^^
Very good post here.
Re: Torment in Graves
Simple is that the soul will be punished and not the body. Those who stole the dead body from the graves just eat the ‘body’ and not ‘soul’.
Re: Torment in Graves
^it's mean souls stay in graves till the judgement day?
Re: Torment in Graves
Peace All,
I think answer of 'body will be punished or soul or both', will remain a mystery. If we see the reference of Ibn Kathir and many others than its true the soul will be punished in grave.
In Islamic history, by reading stories of companionos r.a., and hadith, at many event of wars some companion's bodies were miraculously saved from the reach of infidels. That can be taken as example that only souls will be rewarded or punished in graves (according to their good or bad deeds) and not bodies whether its buried on not.
Almighty Allah says "be and its done", so there should be no doubt left that if HE willed, the complete bodies or remains of the bodies either drowned or cut into pieces by bomb blasts or burned due to air crashes etc., can be found and buried.
Hope this will be helpful for some members :)
Re: Torment in Graves
^this making me more confused now. But one thing is clear that bodies dosent get that azab and ofcourse if somehow there is azab in graves for those who did bad deeds right? So the peoples with good deeds get opposite in graves? Or there souls go straight to
Heaven?

Peace LKK,
I have no doubts regarding the powers of Allah. but when we insist on taking everything too literally and try to fathom the afterlife based on our understanding of this world then we get what sweetequation wrote in her first post # 29. She wanted to have some physical evidence of the torment in grave or perhaps why some good ones suffered horrid treatment by their fellow beings after death.
Re: Torment in Graves
Peace All,
What is confusing here?
A window or door of heaven will be opened for good souls (good deeds holders) and their graves will be wider till the reach of his or her sight. This will remain like this till the day of Judgement arrives.
There are many many hadiths wherein narrated that the Prophet
re-digged and taken out again the body of a companion and no hadith mentioned that the body was in good or bad shape (due to reward or torment). Hadith Book ‘Funerals (Al-Janaaiz)’ is all about it and you can read many many hadith where Prophet Muhammad
said so and so being punished in grave. Below are the few hadiths:
**Book "Funerals (Al-Janaaiz) of Sahih Bukhair - Hadith No(s) 422, 450, 451 and 455. **
Narrated Anas: The Prophet
said, “When a human being is laid in his grave and his companions return and he even hears their foot steps, two angels come to him and make him sit and ask him: What did you use to say about this man, Muhammad ? He will say: I testify that he is Allah’s slave and His Apostle. Then it will be said to him, ‘Look at your place in the Hell-Fire. Allah has given you a place in Paradise instead of it.’ " The Prophet
added, "The dead person will see both his places. But a non-believer or a hypocrite will say to the angels, 'I do not know, but I used to say what the people used to say! It will be said to him, ‘Neither did you know nor did you take the guidance (by reciting the Quran).’ Then he will be hit with an iron hammer between his two ears, and he will cry and that cry will be heard by whatever approaches him except human beings and jinns.”
Narrated Al-Bara’ bin 'Azib : **The Prophet :saw2 said, "When a faithful believer is made to sit in his grave, then (the angels) come to him and he testifies that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and Muhammad is Allah’s Apostle. And that corresponds to Allah’s statement: Allah will keep firm those who believe with the word that stands firm . . . (14.27). **
Narrated Shu’ba: Same as above and added, “**Allah will keep firm those who believe . . . (14.27) was revealed concerning the punishment of the grave.” **
Narrated Asma’ bint Abi Bakr : Allah’s Apostle
once stood up delivering a sermon and mentioned the trial which people will face in the grave. When He
mentioned that, the Muslims started shouting loudly.
