The movie 300 is coming out next week.
I am really looking forward to it.

Man I wanna watch this movie so bad lekin, I m in richmodn Hill and goin to an IMAX is not possible this weekend. Also this movie is worth watching only in IMAX cuz thats how amazing this would be.

It was so-so. The fight sequences were okay..nothing we haven't seen before (LOTR, House of Flying Daggers, etc)...and of course, being a Frank Miller movie....VERY heavy handed with the political message.
Why were all the high ranking Persians African? And what the hell was up with Xerces? Dude reminded me of the Goaould from stargate...

Saw it last night at 11:59 (first show!) and all I have to say is that it was the best ass kicking movie ever made. I think it's up there with Scarface for me.

I saw it last night and really loved it. I thought I would be bored because battle sequences usually put me to sleep. But it was really beautifully done. Very impressive cinematography and choreography. Breathtaking.

Yeah the messages were quite obvious, u can read between the lines tho...I mean...why did the persian army have chinese, blacks, browns, and arabs. While the White western european soldiers were on the other, slaughtering them? :p hahah!

To be fair, the Persian empire did extend from China up to Africa at one point...but I doubt Xerces himself was that dark. Or fruity. Miller has this fetish with the deformed as well...creepy...but it did give the movie a LOTR feel.
I'm going to re-read the graphic novel, and see if there were any references to freedom, liberty, etc. Also, I want to see if there was mention of the Persian army as an army of slaves. Otherwise, I get the distinct feeling that a lot of the dialog was altered to suite the current political climate...Miller openly admits to being an aspiring propagandist; his "Holy Terror, Batman" will be intersting....:)

Also, historically this battle is considered ironic. It really is a defining moment for the development of what people today call Western civilization and thought, but what's interesting is that the Greek philosophies that are the basis of this thought are intregal to Athenian life, not Spartan, and they are the philosophies somewhat mocked by the Spartans in the movie. Historically this battle is noted for this irony; the Spartans stood up for what they believed in, sacrificing themselves for their way of life, and in turn allowing for the spread of a culture that was related to, but very different from their own. Without the Spartans' militaristic and sparse lifestyle, the Athenian and Greek way of life would never have thrived.
I really, really enjoyed this movie. But part of it was because I didn't mind this glorificaion of and nostalgic look at an event and at a people who existed so long ago. Deal with a contemporary event in the same manner and I'd probably hate the oversimplification of it and it would wreak of propaganda. This captured my imagination.
I also found it interesting that the nuclear family structure was only maintained by the good Spartans. Everyone else had "messed up" sexuality issues.

movie was awesome, saw it last night. The fight against that mutant guy was just totally insane. wow. And I think we should just disregard historical accuracy here. This movie was just meant to be insanly cool and needed some reason to display that action.

^ Remember also that it isn't a movie based on history -- it's a movie based on a graphic novel which uses a historical setting.
