Topic sections in Relgion

I think there should be topic specific sections in Relgion. Right now it is just a general discussion area.
If topic specific sections are opened, more serious and fruitful discussions can take place.
I suggest topics such as 1) Hadith 2) Fiqh 3) Book review 4) Madhabs (school of thought) 5) Non Madhabs
Then we can have Brothers and Sisters only areas for private and sensitive subjects. Most of the time, someone wants to ask a private question, some pervert drops in and starts messing with the whole topic.

Some one might say, that these topics won’t appeal to non-muslim Guppies, well then they can post in Religion> General as well.

I know Religion is not Islam only for GS. But maybe there can be and Islam section with these topics inside, since most mods are from Islamic faith and Pakistanis are 90+% muslims.

I stopped posting in Religion as at the end threads just became a big bowl of soup, where muslim / non-mulims, seculars, atheists, were all posting about some specific point of juresprudence and the questioner never really got the answer.

Re: Topic sections in Relgion

one or two subsections may help, I am not sure the proposed breakdown is the best one though. Just my gut feeling based on current state.

maybe we can look at topics from the last quarter and see what buckets they can be put in and then see what subsections could work best.

just a thought.

Re: Topic sections in Relgion

you will still have flamers come in to other sub forums in rlgn and create problems.

Re: Topic sections in Relgion

Fraudz..
I just used some example. Nothing etched in stone.
However, I look at religion, and I see ppl just mixing everything up. So having sections might help.
See Fiqh and Hadeeth deserve sections (either 1 common or seperate) and same case for schools of thought vs non-taqleed or non-madhab. A lot of arguing will come to an end.

Anyhow, just a thought. Otherwise I am really repelled by the religion section now.

Re: Topic sections in Relgion

When a person posts once with his/her belief, we may not know.. but after few posts, it is quite evident if a person is sunni, shia, deobandi, barelvi, qadiyani, ahmedi, lahori etc..

I say those who have nothing to do with any of the faiths and have already declared themselves out of the bound of any religion, having no belief in a God or god(s).. let's just throw them out of Religion forum - they dun belong to any religion, they dun belong in the forum either. They should not be allowed to come and badmouth about anything...

How'z that for a change?

Re: Topic sections in Relgion

I like the idea of having sub sections for different religions. I dont how well it'll go down with the public. Differentiation based on religion is always a sensitive issue. But i think in a sense it could be helpful for people of other faiths, cuz they can jst have their own separate corner with total freedom and strict mod policy abt flamers. One thing though..I dont know how many non muslims visit this site. If the numbers r small, then best jst to ignore my post :o

Re: Topic sections in Relgion

Admins don't care I guess. They are fine with messed up religious discussions I guess...

Re: Topic sections in Relgion

I'm afraid thats not a great idea.....i guess.
I believe people with no religion and no belief do believe in something. We cant leave them alone, as being muslims we have to give dawah to others, doesnt matter how faithless or rude they are. Am I right Brother Anwaar?

Re: Topic sections in Relgion

yes you are right.. but ignorant comments and bad mouthing should not be tolerated either.

Re: Topic sections in Relgion

^I agree brother.

Re: Topic sections in Relgion

is the forum the problem, or are the posters the problem, really.

dont worry about admins, u have a direct line to me right now

Re: Topic sections in Relgion

If I remember correctly we used to have two sections in the religion forum...world religion and Islam but later they were merged into one forum. I don't remember the reason...

Re: Topic sections in Relgion

haiN :frowning: why dun I remember that… I am seeing only one religion forum since 99-2000 …

did I never visit that world religion.. OMG :hayaa: how did I miss a forum while staying here for 8-9 years :-S

Re: Topic sections in Relgion

dunno

I am the wrong person to make decisions about religion forums, but I wanted ppl to know its not that no one was listening. ppl in favour need to make a good argument.

Re: Topic sections in Relgion

Since this is a public forum, instead of grouping people in different buckets based on their perceived faith, I suggest the following simpler solution.

For any discussion which you only want to have with a particular group of people, specify that on top of the thread and then drop a note to the moderators and ask them to keep an eye on that thread and split off irrelevant replies to another thread. That way your thread remains "pure" and those whose response you don't care about will get split into another thread where they can have their own tangential discussion. Problem is that these tangential and provocative comments elicit replies. If no one replies to inane and off-topic comments then they will die their natural death. A lot of folks on GS just love to take bait and start a meaningless squibble with someone who is just enjoying being a niggle.

Re: Topic sections in Relgion

Really the posters can't be restricted the way ppl are indicating.
The forum needs to be structered so that a potentional wayward post (intended just to skew the discussion) can be pointed out to the poster and then to the mod if necessary.

The forum needs to be broken up into topics. Questions such as beard, hijab, etc..are fiqh questions.
Questions regarding why follow a particular hadeeth or not need to be in a hadith section.
Questions regarding a specific verse or surah need to be in a Quran section.
There needs to be an interfaith section for those type of discussions.
Then there are the personal, intimate types. Can I do this with my fiance' ?, can I and my spouse do this? . need to be in marrital questions area,
where as q's like : I am having a personal boy problem or what do I do in my special monthly time, need to be in a brothers only and sisters only sections...
When you mix up the last q's specially in a common section, you really get perverts taking stupid cracks in the thread etc...
Does this make sense to you?

Re: Topic sections in Relgion

so what happens if a topic touches quran, hadith and fiqh, and their alignments or conflicts in the answers people are getting for their personal questions?

what is the count of posts with more than 10 responses on each of these topics in the last 3,6, 12 months.

I mean it would be bad if you set up a forum area and no one shows up.

also do we need to go from 1 to 6 parts at the same time, or do we go from 1 to 2 or 3 and then see if expansion is needed based on interest.

Re: Topic sections in Relgion

Gradual change is always the most cautious.
