i WANT TO DISCUSS sPORTS FROM nonpolitical POINT OF view.

nO BODY GETS KILLED WHEN TWO COUNTRY PLAY .nO BODY GAINS TERRIRORIALLY WHEN PLAYING WITH EACH OTHER WIN OR LOSE

I think even when country is playing against another there is no socio political dictum to invoke PATRIOTISM ,MARTYRDOM SYNDROME & freverour of nationalism called for unnecessarily .

In the following report Indians themselves dont practice what they try to impose in India supressing free choice free will & control over what ppl do like or not l;ike WITHOUT KILLING ANY ONE

This is not political forum so please restrict the persective of sportsmanship

Top UK official in trouble after cheering India at Lord’s

July 17

An Indian-born Briton has caused a controversy in Britain after he was arrested outside Lord’s on the day India defeated England in the Natwest final.

Gurbux Singh, 51, chairman of the Commission for Racial Equality, is said to have “stumbled” into police outside Lord’s, when he was “drunkenly” celebrating India’s success.

Singh, a Sikh from Punjab, has lived in Britain for nearly 50 years. But Right-wing Britons are fuming at his, and other Indian immigrants’ support for India, rather than England, at the match, and are demanding that he be sacked.

On Tuesday night, Singh “regretted” the confrontation with police at Lord’s, but denied that he had been drinking heavily.

He and his wife, Siobhan Maguire, 40, were arrested under Section Four of the Public Order Act for threatening behaviour.

He told the Daily Telegraph: “It is a fact that most people who go to Lord’s for the cricket enjoy drinking alcohol. I would not say that I had drunk heavily.”

“Most people know that I am a great cricket fanatic. I have to say that it was one of the most memorable cricket games that I have ever, ever seen. In fact it was probably the best game I have seen.”

“There was a spectacular performance from England and equally great performance by India. It was a tremendous day celebrated in every way possible.”

Former British minister Norman Tebbit had once spoke of a loyaly test for immigrants which said all immigrants who cheered for the other side and not England are traitors.

damn

then people must not have watched the Us-mexico game in US

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/smile.gif

almost every mexican-american that I know was rooting for mexico.

If he was Americn citizen and was still rooting for Mexico then there is something wrong with him and American have right to criticize them.

Bottomline is that one should take pride in his country and support it.

What about free will?

Why should you elevate a sporting event into a WAR like hysteria.I dont think any American cares which Mexican Citizen supported Mexico.

Patriotism if extended to limitless extent then would it become my patriotic duty to help all ppl outside my country who belong to my country ?

Is it my duty to sit with ONLY my country men if given option on Planes Ship boats or Cinema hall or stadium .

What if we can criticize our own govt.like Naom Chomsky ,Farak Khan Malcolm X Ralph Nader, etc Are they less patriotic .Is the guy with ten feet flag hanging from his pick up more deserving of Americana than me ?

How can India become better than Pakistan just by winning one match that they rdfuse to conceded it by stopping completionm of match as happened once in Calcutta & other occasion i cant give exact locations.

Not true... Such things do not work.. every person has a fav. team and personality and he carries the freedom to support them. for example., I know a chicagoan who hates Cubbies and loves the Yankees.. Does that mean he is not a loyal Chicagoan??

I can support any team I like and the government shouldnt critiscize me if I support Australia, or even India when my team is playing against them... I dont know why some ppl think that the government has every right to detain ppl who support any other teams... Thats plain stupid...

Thank you Spock & Cool Heat ..I always felt this Patriotism So Called Nationalism is becoming one more tool & weapon in the hand of FASCIST McArthyism & MacCauleyism

ius my favourite actor teh citizen of teh same country as myself..actually yes

is my fav musician a citizen of the same country as myself..err yes

is my fav football team from my country of citizenship yes..

now..

If my favourite racing team is Italian, does it make me any less patriotic?

I think blind national pride and patriotism stretched to such an extreme that it starts looking more like xenophobia have no place in society, not by my standards.

In none of the above cases a citizen of your country is competing against the other country.

I like Wasim akram/Younis Bowling doesn't mean I will root for Pakistan whenever they play against India.

AK

errr who does my fav football team play against? itself?

and yes in terms of racing a team from my country is competing against a team from another country.
