Re: Top Ten Countries

Hi there honeybun,

Oil based economies are benefitting from high commodity prices and low population bases, they certainly hv high income levels in 2005, will enjoy same benefits in the near future, but are they sustainable? Commodity prices are cyclical.

Re: Top Ten Countries

Check Business Week, UAEs economy is not crude based, only 7 percent is… I assume Qatar is not part of UAE?

Re: Top Ten Countries

When measuring per capita income, do they include citizens only, or everyone?

Re: Top Ten Countries

Qatar is a separate state, with Doha is its capital. UAE is a separate state with ABu Dhabi as its capital. Qatar is a Natural Gas based economy, while UAE has oil.

Iam not sure how Business Week came to that number (if they have), one thing I do know and that is UAE produces 2.4 million barrels of oil per day, with a population base of 4.5million (which includes expats) do the maths. UAE has diversified its economy, but that is mostly true for Dubai, even then based on revenues generated by the oil industry other economic sector cannot be compared to the oil sector.

But the ruling al-Maktoum family have long had a vision to develop this once-sleepy trading port, previously famous for pearl-diving and gold smuggling.

thy sweet and tender ‘chuckle’…we shall treasure as a burning flame for eternity..

True, True, thy everyword like precious pearls of wisdom speaketh nthg but the truth…

Fossil fuel economies have generated tremendous amounts of cash which is being reinvested into their local economies in the form of increased production outlays (exploration & production), refineries, petrochemicals, pipelines, LNG facilities. In tandem, there is an increased emphasis on water purification, salination operations and power generation, transmission and distribution.

Other than domestic outlays, opportunities in emerging economies are being explored for assets with longerterm horizons.
