Why am I not surprised? This is looking like what it used to. Militants would be granted khulli chutti to kill minority muslims and abuse them as long as they don’t mess with government or the mainstream muslims.
These will be beginnings of the slide back to the magnitude of sectarianism that existed when ppp/pml was in power. Further proof, that the new demonocracy is here for money, and simply want a temporary solution to protect their wealth and assets.
Re: Top Extremist/Millitant Released by government
Actually having them inside was not making much difference, remember the govt. is not going into war against its own people, i like the policy of forgiving, in order to promote peace and harmony, i totally back the govt. decision to talk with the militant groups and disarm them.
No country can win ( in todays world) against the gorella war, we don't want our northern areas or any areas declaring independence or having independence movement. We have too many enemies around us, I never liked Mengals but i liked the decision of Govt. to release him and try to have a national understanding of the Balochistan Crisis.
We must remember the foriegn power can only interfere if we do not settle our affairs inside and on the table. Killing and arms are always the last option, despite teh fact i do not like Zardari or People Party, but i do apprecaite the fact that he is trying to make a national unity govt. and so far he has been successfull.
U.S. unhappy with Pakistani plan for militant peace deal
WASHINGTON (CNN) – The White House on Wednesday expressed concern with reports that Pakistan’s new government is working on a peace accord with militant leaders in its tribal regions.
“We are concerned about it and what we encourage them to do is to continue to fight against the terrorists and to not disrupt any secure military operations that are ongoing in order to prevent a safe haven for terrorists there,” spokeswoman Dana Perino said.
Pakistan’s new government – led by the Pakistan People’s Party of slain leader Benazir Bhutto – is nearing an agreement with the Mehsud tribes of South Waziristan that involves exchanging prisoners and withdrawing Pakistani forces, according to a party spokesman.
Baitullah Mehsud, the leader of the Pakistani Taliban who has ties to al Qaeda, is a member of the Mehsud tribe.
Pakistan’s previous government under President Pervez Musharraf said he was behind Bhutto’s assassination last year, a conclusion reached by the CIA as well.
Bhutto’s party has rejected that assertion, saying it believes Musharraf’s government may have orchestrated the attack.
The deal is being negotiated by the Awami National Party – part of the ruling coalition – whose power base is in the North West Frontier Province, where South Waziristan is located, the party’s leader told CNN.
“Progress is being made through dialogue and shouldn’t be seen in a negative light,” Awami National Party leader Zahid Khan said. “It should be given a chance.”
The reported peace deal may include releasing some suspects tied to Mehsud who are facing trial for Bhutto’s assassination.
On Monday, Pakistani authorities released Sufi Mohammed, a pro-Taliban leader who recruited thousands of fighters to battle U.S. forces in Afghanistan.
Mohammed was captured in Pakistan after fleeing Afghanistan in 2002, months after the U.S.-led invasion that toppled the Taliban rulers there.
Under the terms of his release Mohammed’s banned hardline group, Tehreek Nifaz-e-Shariat Mohammadi (TNSM), is expected to lay down its arms and forgo violence, according to Sardar Hussain Babek, the information minister for North West Frontier Province.
But Mohammed’s son-in-law Fazlullah, who took over TNSM during his jail stint, announced in a radio broadcast Tuesday that he would continue his fight to impose fundamentalist Islamic law in northwest Pakistan, according to local reports.
Musharraf struck peace deals with pro-Taliban tribal leaders in North and South Waziristan in 2006, but they were later rescinded.
A report by the International Crisis Group said Musharraf’s 2006 North Waziristan agreement was directly responsible for creating a safe haven for al Qaeda’s leadership inside Pakistan.
Re: Top Extremist/Millitant Released by government
The demarcation between extremists, militants, political leaders, religious leader, government executives, military commanders, judiciary and diplomats have all vanished. Everyone is all of the above. The term cluster uknowhat is increasingly applicable to Pakistan!
Instead of getting their act together following the election all they have done is agreed upon how to contain musharaf. In all other respects anarchy is setting in
Re: Top Extremist/Millitant Released by government
Hanibal bhaijan. It looks like Great USA is rightly not happy with the 'talking' proposal.
Aalsi Bhai jan, USA cannot tolerate a single step to harmony and peace, i guess USA have deal with some evil forces, in which USA is obliged to kill as many human as possible...and any efforts for stopping such bloodshed is not liked by the US administration...

USA plans are never what is best for Pakistan. They support their agents, whether its Zia, or Mush, who implement their agenda with blood
Re: Top Extremist/Millitant Released by government
Its a good step towards peace. I am strong supporter of peace deals between Pak army and Ethnic Pashtuns of NWFP.
So finally our army has realized that they cannot win against a Province
Re: Top Extremist/Millitant Released by government
This is as close to another SURRENDER as Pak army can get to without being called that again.
What kind of govt releases tErrorists who openly deny the writ of the law and want to implement medieval code of. Lopping of heads and chopping of arms?

Pathetic
Well, These tribal Pashtun tribes have been defender of our western fronteirs and are not terrorists. I am happy that finally Pak Army has realized that they were at fault by arresting them.
Let the doves fly high and be peace on all Pakistan
Handshake between govt troops and the brave tribes of NWFP is a milestone towards national integrity. I applaud it and hope that Pak army never makes a mistake again.

Re: Top Extremist/Millitant Released by government
Please continue to burn in your rage!
Looks like some people like tariq want to see bloodshed between Pak Army and Paktoon tribes and they are not happy at the peace deal...Now what could be more evil than that?
Re: Top Extremist/Millitant Released by government
Hanibal bhaijan. It is not the Great USA that does not want peace, it is the terrorist outfits that have once again turned down the chance of dialog for peace. Great USA is right - one cannot reason with terrorists.
