By star-actors, i mean u dont make esoteric choices like naseeruddin shah, om puri, balraj sahani, moti lal, raghubir yadav, nana patekar, pran etc.

I will recommend 'sparsh' of naseeruddin shah, for example. naseer is far far beter actor than anil kapurs and shahrukhs, though not a star. with dilip kumar 'sageena mahato', 'madhumati', 'devdas', shakti'. dilip kumar changer the acting style in indian movies at that time. while prithviraj kapur will shout 'khabardar, jo age badh gaye to', dilip kumar could say the same in low tone with same effect. his mannerisms and gesture could be seen in manoj kumar, kader khan and many others.

raj kumar was good in early years, mother india, pakiza. but then things went in his head. cant call him paricularly great actor.
shah rukh.. not even worth discussing...
but as johnd said, sanjeev kumar had many memorable performance. 'sholay', 'trishul' in action part. 'angoor' was a scream as piece of comedy. 'andhi' was wonderfully emotional role.

anari.. mithun makes films in ooty where he has a hotel. he does not come to bombay. he makes films in very short time like 3 months and in low budget. so his films dont flop. mithun is not bad actor. he won national award of india for his first film 'mrigaya', but never later.
kamal hasan is outstanding actor. unfortunately could not give hits in hindi.
then there are Indian actors like Mohanlal of Kerala who have won national award four times and also some international acclaim. But I have never seen them since they did not act in Hindi.
unfortunately, hindi films do not offer much to bit older actors. except 'shakti', dilip kumar did not get much chance. they have not been able to give good roles for aged Amitabh. To know that Dr. Lagu is a wonderful actor u have to see 'pinjara' or 'samana' in marathi. in hindi he is reduced to 'ye shadi nahin ho sakati.'

ZZ, Have u had a chance to see 'Sansaar', a kher/raj babbar/Rekha movie...
I think Kher is outstanding in that......
Otherwise, yes, he has had little chances to display his acting skills . Most of his roles has been of 'weird father','quirky friend','loud mouth villain' and the likes..
he could do with a few more 'Saraansh'.
BTW, he was good in 'Daddy' too.....
And yes, Aaamir is a thinking actor. But all the other Khans have done little besides showing off muscles and dancing around trees.
