Top 10 of Hemant Kumar

Even if Hemant Kumar ended up giving music for ‘Nagin’ and ‘Khamoshi’ he would have arguably been in top ten Hindi Music directors of century leaving behind Jaidev (perhaps), Khayyam, kalyanaji-anandji, Laxmi-Pyare, khemchand prakash, husnalal-bhagatram and Vasant desai (in that order).

My choice

  1. Dekho woh chand chupke chupke (shart)

  2. Vo shaam kuchh ajib thi (khamoshi)

  3. Saakiya aaj tohe nind nahin aaayengi (Sahib Bibi aur ghulam)

  4. mera dil ye pukare aa ja (Nagin)

  5. Humne dekhi hain un aankhon ki (khamoshi)

  6. Na ye chand hoga (Shart)

  7. dhire dhire machal, ai dil-e-beqarar (Anupama)

  8. havaaon pe likh do, havaaon ke naam (Do dooni char)

  9. Yeh nayan dare dare (Kohra)

  10. Beqarar karke hame (Bees saal baad)

Bye folks. Here ends my series.

Hey ZZ yaara,

Woh shaam kuuch ajeeb thee just happens to be one of moi all-time favourites, lekin isn't that sung by Kishore??? I'm pretty sure it is!

From the same movie Khamosshi though... a Hemant Kumar song...
Tuum Puukaar Lo... Tuumhaara intezaar hai

That's the first song which comes to mind when I hear Hemant.

Two other GREAT HITS by Hemant:

  • Teri Duuniya Mey Jeeney Sey, Tow Behtar Hai Key Marr JaayeN (Lyrics by Sahir)

and

  • Yeh Nayan Darey Darey... (Lyrics Kaifi Azmi)

No.. No.. This is Hemant Kumar as music director. Others have sung under his direction. And Hemant has sung in others music direction e.g. 'chupa lo yun dil mein..' under Roshan, or 'Jaag dard-e-ishq jaag' under CR or 'yaad kiya dilne' under shankar jaikishen, 'Halake halke chalo saanware' under Salil Chowdhari, 'jaane wo kaise log the jinko/ Chup hai dharati' under SD, 'Tumhe yaad hoga kabhi hum mile the' under kalyanji shah.

Indeed a gifted artist. Everything with Hemant touch is wonderful and long lasting.

All songs u mentioned are however under Hemant's music direction too.

Very rarely he is mentioned as music director. I wonder why.

Ohh ok... :)

My favourities from your list:

Woh sham kuch ajeeb thi
dhire dhire machal, ai dil-e-beqarar
Na ye chand hoga
Beqarar karke hame

He-man Kumar .. hes great !

i like that song ..

Yeh raat yeh chandni phir kahan

Hai apna dil to awara ..

Awara bhnawaray .. well not his but i still like the song

MR.

I think After Rafi he was the best male singer in both ind/pak. Some peoples may put Mehdi Hasan before Hemant but I think Hemant was much better than everybody included Mukeesh.
