This reasoning is incorrect. Allah says in I believe it's Surah Ahzab that He and the angels do Salah on the Prophet. Here the word Salah is used in it's literal meaning and not the Shariah meaning. And in other cases words are used in their Shariah meaning and some people translate them in the literal sense.
To translate the words according to modern arabic is incorrect, the Quran has to be translated in the manner the Prophet and the Sahaba understood (ie. "context for the time" is irrelevant).
By the way arabic words have four definitions: the literal meaning, the Shariah meaning, the meaning used in common language., and unforutnately I don't remember what the fourth one is.
This is a matter of interpretation. Some things are clearly prohibited. Such as eating pork. No doubt about it. Human interpretation is fallible, the Qu'ran is not.
