Too polite for our own good?

So do you guys think some of us are too polite for our own good? I mean, often people you don’t really care about keep investigating your private affairs and while most of these Sherlock Holmes inspired aunties can be silenced by one rude outburst, most people just grit their teeth and move on. I can understand not wanting to offend your loved ones, but why keep answering crap questions from people who have no business with you?

i'm exactly like that and sometimes i'm taken advantage of. my family tells me to learn to say 'NO' when there is a need...kids also manipulate me to get a bigger Eidi hehe. i kinda like that ;)

Re: Too polite for our own good?

sometimes I feel we are more polite to strangers than to our loved ones which is just plain wrong. But then again that is how society really is. They put on a face in front of others and then they are themselves at home in front of their parents/kids/spouses. It reminds me of the Everybody Loves Raymond episode where Ray and Deborah realize just this, that they are not as nice to eachother as they are to others. I think in the case of aunties we just have to grin and bear it for the most part of it but then we can politely say that we will not answer certain questions. We can also hint to them how uncomfortable we are with their certain questions politely by changing the subject or somehow magically telling them so without hurting their feelings.
