Too Much RAM Occupied

I am back with my computer (Vista) problems

For the past few days, I’ve noticed that my computer sometimes get slow because all the RAM is occupied. I am using Vista, I don’t have any “extra” programs installed. I do have the antivirus, anti spyware, and what not and is just tracks and deletes spy cookies. No major threat found. I believe my RAM is 1GB. Most of the time, the little meter that comes with Vista shows 50-75% use even when no program is running and I am on the desktop. When I run programs, of course it jumps up to 80%+.

Any idea what can be causing this? Below are a couple of screenshots for your viewing pleasure. As you can see, I only have the firefox window open, nothing else.

92° vs 62°, what a difference yesterday I was there and today here it is much cooler.
PS: CPU Usage 5% looks OK to me.

Re: Too Much RAM Occupied

your problem is called MS Vista. good luck with just 1GB of RAM.

Re: Too Much RAM Occupied

What are your PC specs? What is your VM setup and amount of free space on HD?

Re: Too Much RAM Occupied

That’s what I am thinking but just wanted a second opinion.

Here are those shots.

Re: Too Much RAM Occupied

jz upgrade ur ram sohail... 1gb ram 4 vista is NOT enuff... i would recommend gettin another gig in there... go to besbuy... get a 1 gb ddr2 pc 5300 chip for arnd 45 bucks and dat would fix ur prob... gud luck.

Re: Too Much RAM Occupied

^ Thanks Shobi. So my guess was right, even though 1GB ram sounds a lot but for vista it is not. You would probably know this, if I go to best buy, do I just tell them about my computer and they can find out the appropriate card for me or do I need to write down and give them some kind of product number?

EDIT: Just looked up the price on bestbuy.com and the cheapest one is like $85

Re: Too Much RAM Occupied

before u go there, check to see if there is an extra slot available in ur comp for memory upgrade. if yes, then go there and ask for DDR2 PC-5300 Notebook Ram. They wouldnt need any other information. If u dont wanna install memory urself then take it to geek squad... they would install it for u for 39 bucks... Simple stuff!

if u want me to find out abt ur available memory slots. jz lemme know da model..

Re: Too Much RAM Occupied

I think it does have another slot.. yeah I think I saw one empty when I opened the computr last time....you can confirm it.

Re: Too Much RAM Occupied

pal do you really want to be on vista, or would you consider going back to XP?

secondly, if you are buying RAM, but it online and get it cheap. install it yourself, only little girls pay money to have someone install ram for u.

=)

Re: Too Much RAM Occupied

Shikra maybe if you deleted all those pictures you take of yourself it would clear some space up. :phati:

and be sure you buy a computer RAM not a real life RAM from ebay or whatever because i think shipping would be a big problem then =]

Re: Too Much RAM Occupied

LOL queer, don’t worry, I’ll do it myself, I do EVERYTHING computer-related on my own, only had to take it to the store once and never after that. Installing RAM is a piece of cheese cake.

As for the other question, I am probably getting punished for my sins. I do have another laptop that has XP and it has always come in handy when my Vista crashed for about 6 times since February. So yeah, I’ve reinstalled the operating system about 6 times since I bought it. Knock on wood, it’s working fine since the last time I replaced the hard drive, I think my first hard drive was corrupted.

Anyway, I think I’ll wait for the prices to come down a little. Every time I buy technology, it drops to 75% of the price that I paid in less than a week.

Phatmoti LOL shut up :smilestar: I don’t take my own pics like some people do in the bathrooms :phati:

Re: Too Much RAM Occupied

Shikra how come you’re always having computer problems? :phati: You shouldn’t be allowed to use computers. You abuse them.

Re: Too Much RAM Occupied

According to the specs, u have NO available slots.. u’ve got 2 X 512 MB in there already..

jz open up and check jz to make sure… and if u dont have any slots available den u know wot u would need to do.

Check next week at bestbuy.. dis week they had ddr on sale… so im pretty sure next week they’d have ddr2 on sale.. dats how they always have it.. so keep an eye on dat…

Re: Too Much RAM Occupied

Thanks. I'll keep an eye on that. If both slot are occupied, I'll just put 2 1-Gs in there..........or may be have it like 1.5 G.

Re: Too Much RAM Occupied

sohail i would not recommend changing ur operating system back to XP :smack: Microsoft is on its way to release Service Pack 1. so jz wait for dat… u mite face some drivers issues if u roll back to XP.

Re: Too Much RAM Occupied

havin 1.5gb should b okay! Gud luck.

Re: Too Much RAM Occupied

Don't worry, I am not rolling back. This computer came with Vista installed on it and I am not going to wipe it clean and then install XP....this is like once you start using broadband, you can't go back to dial-up :D

Re: Too Much RAM Occupied

I don't think you can have a 1GB and 512MB modules in two bays. For DDR2 on Laptop specially, you have to have same size and speed for both modules.

I didn't find Vista anything special. I like Kubuntu, MAC OSX and even XP SP2 better than Vista. May be its just me.
