For the past few days, I’ve noticed that my computer sometimes get slow because all the RAM is occupied. I am using Vista, I don’t have any “extra” programs installed. I do have the antivirus, anti spyware, and what not and is just tracks and deletes spy cookies. No major threat found. I believe my RAM is 1GB. Most of the time, the little meter that comes with Vista shows 50-75% use even when no program is running and I am on the desktop. When I run programs, of course it jumps up to 80%+.
Any idea what can be causing this? Below are a couple of screenshots for your viewing pleasure. As you can see, I only have the firefox window open, nothing else.
jz upgrade ur ram sohail... 1gb ram 4 vista is NOT enuff... i would recommend gettin another gig in there... go to besbuy... get a 1 gb ddr2 pc 5300 chip for arnd 45 bucks and dat would fix ur prob... gud luck.
^ Thanks Shobi. So my guess was right, even though 1GB ram sounds a lot but for vista it is not. You would probably know this, if I go to best buy, do I just tell them about my computer and they can find out the appropriate card for me or do I need to write down and give them some kind of product number?
EDIT: Just looked up the price on bestbuy.com and the cheapest one is like $85
before u go there, check to see if there is an extra slot available in ur comp for memory upgrade. if yes, then go there and ask for DDR2 PC-5300 Notebook Ram. They wouldnt need any other information. If u dont wanna install memory urself then take it to geek squad... they would install it for u for 39 bucks... Simple stuff!
if u want me to find out abt ur available memory slots. jz lemme know da model..
LOL queer, don’t worry, I’ll do it myself, I do EVERYTHING computer-related on my own, only had to take it to the store once and never after that. Installing RAM is a piece of cheese cake.
As for the other question, I am probably getting punished for my sins. I do have another laptop that has XP and it has always come in handy when my Vista crashed for about 6 times since February. So yeah, I’ve reinstalled the operating system about 6 times since I bought it. Knock on wood, it’s working fine since the last time I replaced the hard drive, I think my first hard drive was corrupted.
Anyway, I think I’ll wait for the prices to come down a little. Every time I buy technology, it drops to 75% of the price that I paid in less than a week.
Phatmoti LOL shut up I don’t take my own pics like some people do in the bathrooms
According to the specs, u have NO available slots.. u’ve got 2 X 512 MB in there already..
jz open up and check jz to make sure… and if u dont have any slots available den u know wot u would need to do.
Check next week at bestbuy.. dis week they had ddr on sale… so im pretty sure next week they’d have ddr2 on sale.. dats how they always have it.. so keep an eye on dat…
sohail i would not recommend changing ur operating system back to XP Microsoft is on its way to release Service Pack 1. so jz wait for dat… u mite face some drivers issues if u roll back to XP.
Don't worry, I am not rolling back. This computer came with Vista installed on it and I am not going to wipe it clean and then install XP....this is like once you start using broadband, you can't go back to dial-up :D
