tommee tippee versus avent

ok guys…i know there are a few threads on sterilzers,i have been thru all of them but still could not understand one thing.
which sterilizer is better?tommee tippee or avent ?also can u use other bottle brands in both of them?
actually i was thinking of buying avent electric sterilzer initially, but then tommee tippee electric sterilizer is on sale,n u get almost everything with it..so not sure whch one to go for..
any advice plz?

Re: tommee tippee versus avent

tommee tippee bottles are shaped a certain way and i think the sterilizer is meant to hold only the tt bottles because of that. the avent one holds bottles of different sizes, i'm pretty sure. do a google search for it to confirm. there is also the safety 1st brand that makes a universal bottle sterilizer for all brands of bottles.

keep in mind sterilizers will only keep the bottles clean so long as the lid is closed. the minute you open the lid to actually retrieve a bottle, the sterilization bit goes out the window according to some of the reviews i've read.

i usually wash the bottles with detergent throughout the day and put them in the dishwasher once at night which sterilizes them.

Re: tommee tippee versus avent

here is an alternative thought ...
you don't actually need a sterilizer. Boil the bottles/attachments as per instructions prior to first use. Thereafter, they can be washed with soap and water.
Here is what I did/do. Instead of a sterilizer, i bought an electric kettle (a large one). boils water in 3 mins or less. use that for washing, soaking your bottles ... keeping boiled/cooled/tepid water for your formula (if u need) and what the heck ... while you are at it ... make yourself a cup of tea!

my baby is about 2 weeks old and i haven't had a problem with time management or sickness due to unclean bottles using my method.

as to you original question ...AVENT works with all bottle brands.

Re: tommee tippee versus avent

she is rite u dont actually have to have a sterlizer. Wash ur bottles with baby bottle wash liquid throughly n then boil them for 5mins n keep the lid close. But choice is urs, i ve heard avent sterlizer is the best one.

Re: tommee tippee versus avent

Tommee Tippee electric one holds everything :)

TT bottles, sippy cups etc are a bit wider so the slots kindda hold all narrow or wide neck bottles....

Re: tommee tippee versus avent

i m using avent sterlizer its great it sterlizes everything feeding cup bottles pacifers droppers n u can use its parts in dish washer as well :)

Re: tommee tippee versus avent

i have the tomee tippee, love it. the bottles are great. i tried avent in the beginning, but didnt like them, and for some reason baby wouldnt suck on it properly, the lid didnt close all too well either, i checked online, and lots of people had similar issues with the avent bottle lid.

anyway tommee tippee had better reviews, so i bought that. and a year on im still using their prods.

Re: tommee tippee versus avent

to those saying you dont need a sterislier, you do. yes u can boil them, i boiled them a few times when ive been out to someones house, and forgot to take the sterilising tablets with me.

the bottle gets all sticky, and doesnt look or feel clean afterwards. dont know why. its not good for the rubber bit of the nipple. otherwise its the best thing if u have no steriliser, and no tablets.

Re: tommee tippee versus avent

^ dishwashers work just as well but take longer. i use the playtex ventaires and i boil the valves, nipples, nipple collars and caps once a week. that's all you need after the initial boil. otherwise i wash with a bottle brush and detergent and everything comes out sparkling. you need to rinse out the components before boiling them.

Re: tommee tippee versus avent

even height wise? that was my concern when i saw it. for eg: a 9 oz tt bottle will be shorter than a 9 oz playtex bottle.

Re: tommee tippee versus avent

If height becomes the issue....you can just solve that by not placing the top tray..... :)

Re: tommee tippee versus avent

one more thing should one go for an electric sterlisier or the microwave one?
