Re: Tolerance
Things which are quite normal for other parts of the country, takes an ethnic version in Karachi. Like governement action against 4 stroke smoke emitting rickshaws in Lahore and Rawalpindi is a routine matter. But here in Karachi it is seen as an ethinic revenge!
Re: Tolerance
Similarly there was an action against illegel villages (an attempt by land mafia) in Islamabad. But if you take such an action in Karachi, that will create ethinic tension!

good summary of the background burqaposhx. going forward however we need to ask what is expected of valid political parties? just saying that its always been violent in karachi doesnt solve anything.
Karachi kai Hamam mai sabh nanGai hain. :chai: violence in Karachi’s politics started from it’s student unions back in 1979 and 1980 (IJT VS PSF, Hussain Haqqani of IJT & PSF leader Salamullah Tipu rings any bells? ). Anyone who lived or set a foot in it’s higher eduation institutes should know that, unless he/she was too naive or ignorant. It was increasing violenece and potential Anti Zia student movment which forced Zia to ban student unions all togather, which resulted this culture to spread into different political parties to some extent.
anyway
HERE IS SOMETHING WORTH READING. (in pdf format)
NOTE: it’s a 22 pages document, but as I see most of us has **“dard-e-Karachi” **in our hearts , so reading the whole paper shouldn’t be a problem.
MQM was never able to cut the influence of PPP in Sindh. Karachi was always an anti PPP city even before the birth of MQM.
Yes it has, it has prevented the PPP from forming a Govt in sindh many times now.
Re: Tolerance
While some guppies beat up MQM for its violent nature, we must remember that many such "beaters" tend to support Lal Masjid suiciders, the chota Maulvi who died and the barra Maulvi who became burqaposh (with X).
We should have some sense of fairness here. Please.
Re: Tolerance
Challo, now you've start being AntiOBL again, which was why no one took you seriously before with that nick.
You MQM lovers/supporters bring up mollahs and tollahs and what not every time someone mentions the open badmaashi and bhattakhoori that this fascist ethnic party comes up with. I dont support any burqa-molvi, but I still strongly condemn your quiad-e-fisaad-e-tahreek, against whom you cant hear a word without bringing in the other evils of the world.

I Personally thing that in the other parts of the country things like these are not exploited by the leaders. i.e., if there is fight between a Lahori and Pathan in Lahore it will be more or less their personal matter and people will just interfere to stop both of them. If things get worse, both or one the party will get his friends together and attack other... still this is not taken as ethinic issue. the issue remain between two parties, in which either both of them or one of them is wrong.
Now the Question is, Do we want our young ones to grow up with the same fears and in the same enviornment?

Exactly!
Because it is justified as Burqaposhx has told, then the taliban and others are also justified, that they are like this because they have violent nature...
The Solution of this problem lies in the hand of common man of Karachi and all the other regions where the violence and lack of tolerance is part of daily life.
The Common man has to stand up against the evil at least by saying it evil so their youngones can act to destroy the evil elements in the society... until this happens, the coming generations will go through the same what we are going through.

Dost Karachi may agar kisi rickshaw wala ka kisi passenger kay saath jhagra ho jayee to saray rickhsaw walay apnay rickshawlaay ki hamayat may aajtaay. And this is happening since long in Karachi.

Jis bhi ma'ashray maiN insaaf mafqood ho, wahaaN aisay hi hota hay...
We should work for justice, aur yeh hamay apnay gherooN say shoroo kerna hay!!!
The second and much more violent streak in Karachi politics came from part religion and part ethnicity. As I said earlier, the immigrants from India brought along serious hatred on Shia Sunni lines. There used to be violent clashes between the two sects pretty much on the same level as modern day sectarian violence in Kurram agency.
How many Shia vs Sunni clashes took places prior to 1980s?
Urdu speaking community also harbored strong dislike of Pashtun bus drivers and such feelings boiled over in anti-Pashtun riots after a little girl was run over by a bus.
It wasn't until MQM was already born and MQM used that incident to heat up the ethnic hatred.
Thus considering the background, MQM was destined to use terror to mould its future. In some cases it was deliberate, and in other cases it was merely defensive. MQM has seen many of its workers and leaders ruthlessly killed, and yes MQM has killed its opponents mafia style. In many cases it was a turf war akin to the gang wars of Los Angeles and other American cities.
How many "leaders" and workers were killed prior to 1990s "Operation Cleanup"?
Guns, drugs, and pure extortion has been used by almost every party in Karachi, and MQM is no exception.
Drugs? which political party used drugs?
I don't recall any party going widespread for extortion as MQM did, MQM went for extortion to big companies like cigarette makers.
