Toddlers and "the diaper bag"

Do you still carry a big bag full of STUFF whenever you go out with your toddler? Or have you started reducing the amount you carry around. I was still carrying everything I thought I would need, until I noticed other moms carrying purses again! And noticed I barely used most of the stuff in her bag. I had a smaller bag I started carrying with one change of clothes and her juice cups and maybe a snack. Occasionally I throw in something to entertain her (a book, some coloring supplies, and/or some electronic device – but I don’t want her too reliant on these things). I’m really finding that’s all you need, unless you’re going on some long trip. So now I’m searching for a smaller bag (the one I had broke, and it’s not pretty) that can carry these things. Mainly just a medium-sized bags with a cupholder of some sort so her drinks don’t spill.

And something stylish.

Any suggestions? What do the rest of you moms with non-babies do?

Re: Toddlers and “the diaper bag”

For now I am still carrying the same bag I was when she was a baby.I still have stuff in there I think she will need, including a change of clothes,3-4 diapers,wipes,2-3 snack containers,a juice box,a sippy cup,a water bottle, a changing mat,few washcloths and other stuff like sanitizer, tissues etc. This is the regular stuff. If we are going fo a long trip or an outdoor trip, then there is even more stuff in there.
I have to attend a fancy dinner in a few days and I was thinking there is no way I am walking in there with that horrific bag,but I know I will…:bummer:

I would looove to buy a new smaller bag too…!!

Re: Toddlers and "the diaper bag"

oh yes i think the things r increasing what i carry is 2 changing clothes, some snacks, milk, some toys, bibs, wipes, tissue paper, small baby lotion, baby soap, mini towel, changing mat, water, baby jelly, small shopping bags (for carrying dirty clothes). all this stuff i carry if i m going out for more than 2 to 3 hours else i hava a small bag in which i just put 1 diaper 1 bib water milk n wipes. but it rarely happen tht i m going out only for 2 to 3 hours.

chips i never carry tht big diaper bag i always place it inside the push chair or hang over itn i carry my separate stuff.

Re: Toddlers and "the diaper bag"

I started using a small back pack. My son used to love wearing it. I would just throw in a change of clothes, snack and diapers. And they usually have a mesh bag for holding bottles or sippy cups. Just try not to make it too heavy.

Re: Toddlers and "the diaper bag"

I put it in the stroller basket or on the handle too.But there is no way I am dragging a stroller with a huge diaper bag too.And also,my daughter wont be in the stroller at that dinner so there wont be any use of it.I might just leave the bag in the car and hope I wont need it for the night..!

Re: Toddlers and “the diaper bag”

my baby is still younger she just turned 16 months so i m crossing figure when she turns 2 i might decrease stuff lets c :hmmm:

Re: Toddlers and "the diaper bag"

First of all, why are you only asking the moms? Are fathers useless?

Secondly, as the little one has grown older, I've started carrying less stuff. I always carry one season appropriate change of clothing in the car but don't carry it around with me. I also always have wet wipes in the car and per Douglas Adams' instructions, I always carry a towel (in the car). If we are out and about like at the mall or whatever, I carry a handful of wet wipes in a ziploc baggie in my pocket, that's it. If we're going far, I also carry snacks but I don't carry a big ol' bag everywhere anymore, it's so easy to go about with her now.

When I take her on long road trips (3-5 hours drive), I carry the same in the car, not much on me if we go out and about. If we're going overnight, I just pack enough PJs and outfits and underwear for her. Easy peasy.

Re: Toddlers and "the diaper bag"

You're right, aahmed. It was a silly slip.

Re: Toddlers and “the diaper bag”

you are such a good daddy ahmed ur wife is so lucky :k:

I only carry one diaper in my small crossover bag if we are going to the library, mall or grocery shopping. One bottle is all I carry
With long trips I carry his change if clothes in our bag, and probably 2 bottles rather than one.
He usually eats what we eat outside and only needs his bottle when sleepy. Stopped carrying his diaper bag a long time ago

Re: Toddlers and “the diaper bag”

wow… u guys carry a lot :o

i only carry a change of clothes and wet wipes. thats it.

he drinks from a cup or water bottle like we do when out

he carries his snack in this sorta tub and keeps it in the car.

Solid Feeding < Nûby

blanket, towel we keep in teh car.

for longer trips husband just makes a backpack.. well now he shares in genie’s diaper bag …

thats it

before genie came.. i had moved onto dainty purses .. so purrty.

Re: Toddlers and "the diaper bag"

I guess a lot of this depends on where the child is in terms of potty training too. When it was all new to us, I had about a billion changes of clothes with me, cuz the child had accidents every five minutes. Now, thankfully we don't have to worry about that.

Re: Toddlers and "the diaper bag"

so bunny is potty trained? woohoooo

share your words of wisdom so we can benefit from it when it's time!!!

I carry a diaper bag with me everywhere but we hardly ever use it.. yday I just took his bottle,a toy, wipes, and a diaper in my hand bag to an outing with me and it worked out just fine but it was only for an hour!!! :D

Re: Toddlers and "the diaper bag"

I only carry 2 nappies/diapers. But I always end up using only one, I also have a pack of wipes, a pack of snacks & that's about it. I've never taken spare clothes, Thnk God never needed them.

Toddlers and "the diaper bag"

I carry 2 diapers, wipes, antibacterial wipes a well as a spray, some kind of food, wallet, tablet for these monkies on an out of control day!! My makeup mini bag, hair clips and i need to keep room in mu purse incase the divas feel like they need to take off their denim jacket or worse shoes. It gets pretty heavy and the carryall i have right now doesnt have pockets but I cant find a bag big enuf.

Re: Toddlers and "the diaper bag"

Devi: make them carry their own snacks and clothes etc. Keep it light but stuff u will defo need, make them carry it. Stuff they take off goes in there too.

Re: Toddlers and “the diaper bag”

I was carrying her bag till she was almost 4 (we had to throw it away after a flight back from pak when the milk leaked).

Even her kinder bag had a change of clothes and I keep spare tights for her in her school bag now too :halo: Is that too much?? probably. But they can have accidents even at school and its soooo handy.

I found it really hard to part with the ugly nappy bag.

I did however, start carrying bigger handbags with her pjs and other small items in there. You just never know!

Re: Toddlers and “the diaper bag”

Sadzzz… They dont give them lockers at kinder?

My son has a stash of clothing, shoes, undergarments and seasonal stuff like raincoat etc… In his locker at pre k.

I cant imagine him carrying all that everyday

Re: Toddlers and "the diaper bag"

^na not at primary school... They have a locker but it only fits the school bag... It's just a khaana for the bags... I only put spare rights in there for her but will prolly put socks now too,

At daycare and kinder, I had a complete set of clothes minus the shoes... But she didn't have to carry her bag too much there. Only at the end of the day ffrom her usual class to the combined one... And there were no books and lunch box, do wasn't too heavy :)
