Toddler room design help!!!

Salam ladies,
So we finally ordered room furniture and it will arrive in two weeks. So I have little time to change the room up and make it fun for the little guy
Here is what the nursery looks like:

(this was before he was born, now we have tons of toys for him…that wrap around the floor.

I want to keep the curtains, and the wall paint (I might be able to add an accent wall.) and we are keeping the dresser/changing table in the room.
This is the bed (twin) we ordered for him along with the night stand. I want to keep this set for a little while (at least 4-5 years.)

I was thinking Mickey Mouse theme …please suggest ideas of color combo (keeping the wall the same color), bedding, decorations ideas etc.

All the mickey mouse bedding i am seeing is way too much. I think i would like to keep the bedding in solid colors…and maybe do wall decads with the mickey theme…what do you think???

Re: Toddler room design help!!!

What is something your son likes? Do you do art work with your son? Hang his projects on the wall. My son loves to see his art up on the wall.

Frame his pictures and display them on the all. Get some ABC and 123 charts for the wall. Get him a blanket/comforter with whatever character/theme he likes.

Set up his work table, book rack, activity/toy bins.

Re: Toddler room design help!!!

Get a colourful rug to layer on the floor. Set up a comfy floor cushion with a bookcase in a corner or a basket full of books for a reading corner.

maybe get bedding in solid colours like a red or blue duvet for the theme. Use Mickey artwork, stuffed toys and maybe a pillow or two rather than wall decals. What kind of lighting is in the room? Ikea has fun inexpensive lighting that you can switch out easily for some more detail.

Re: Toddler room design help!!!

Also consider getting floor length curtains- short curtains look odd. And re- hang the shelves at his level so he can easily reach books and toys displayed there.

Re: Toddler room design help!!!

What Lusi said about the art work! I bought some thick paper and let my kids paint (the little one just doodled) on them. Then I framed them and hung them in their room.
My daughter loves it and loves to tell everyone who comes to visit that she and her brother made them themselves

If your son has a lot of books you could get those spice racks from Ikea (they’re only $3 each) paint them and hang them all on one wall (maybe next to the window?). They work great as bookshelves and you could also get a little comfy chair for him to sit in and maybe even a lamp.
I know you said you’re keeping the curtains, but if you’re changing them later I’d get longer ones. It gives an illusion of higher ceilings.

Re: Toddler room design help!!!

Thank you ladies, i Wendy i love the artwork project… ithink i will have him paint few items asap!

SGC i was thinking the same for the bedding…soild in blue and red etc. we do have a lot of books for him and he loves to read…But i will use the changing station as a bookshleve and keep tthem there. I will keep few of them in the living room as we spent a lot of time there and he reads there too

I am think about doing a mickey’s head wall decal in black…and he can draw on it with chalk…why not a decal???

Re: Toddler room design help!!!

That chalkboard decal sounds adorable! I generally don’t like cartoon characters plastered all over but that’s a personal preference.

Check this out for inspiration, I like the third picture

They’ve used Mickey toys etc as accents, which I prefer to decals.

Re: Toddler room design help!!!

^ hmm.. i like, but i think wall decals are easier way to do a theme…also…he has soo much stuff already that i think accents are nice but i can’t really add too many things…they would croud the room. I will upload a current picture to show all the toys i will have to work around.
