Todays Pakistan

Asalaam u alaikum to all,
I have not been to Pakistan for 4 years. And I’m not very well aware of Pakistan’s culture, way of life. I mean I have some idea about Karachi, but I do not know of other parts of Pakistan :confused. Can you pleaaaaaaaaaaaase describe to me what life is like in Pakistan. Tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth. I mean, tell it like it is. The facts, don’t make up bull****. If you have seen anything outrageous, or if there is anything amusing, or even if its just general stuff, i’d love to hear about it. Come on people…START TYPING!
You can send me an email, or you can write on this message board, either way, it will be much much much appreciated.

If your reading this, your wasting your time.

Next time at least try to be a little bit believable. And Indian in Pakistanis clothing (or vice versa) always sounds like a jackass.

Sania..
Obviously tensions are flaring around Pakistan, but Ive had several friends visit Pakistan and return since Sept 11, and the daily life goes on as it has always had. Nothing new there. But then again, I think you are referring to daily life, societal regulations and customs rather than the political situation.

Karachi is very different compared to the rest of Pakistan, no doubt. Karachi is very westernized for the most part, with Mcdonalds and Pizza huts popping up on every corner. If you go to Punjab, theres Lahore, where you do have hints of westernization, but still, Lahore has managed a tremendous balance between its originality and foreign influx. Go to Lahore, and you will still be able to enjoy a cheap and delicious meal at a roadside restaurant, and at the same time, you will be able to go visit some trendy westernized joint in the same vicinity. Lahore has culture galore. Just go to the old city and see for yourself.

Baluchistan and NWFP are perhaps the most 'original' provinces, with very little foreign influence having penetrated their folds, mainly because they are a very private people for the most part, very strict about their regional customs and traditions, which date back to ages.

akif I saw this post many times but didn't reply coz I was thinking a person who came from pakista just four years ago is asking for information. I was confused about author of this post.

Mr. Cool Down,
I left Pakistan 4-5 years ago, at that time I was 13 years old

. And my memory is not very clear. Certain customs and rituals I didn’t understand. But now, the Indian culture is “in your face” where as I don’t know the Pakistani culture. I realise that they would be very similar, but there must be some differences. Thats why I’m asking people who are living in Pakistan at present, or have been to Pakistan recently.
It’s just interesting!

Thanks anyway.

you left pakistan 4,5 years before but your parents must be pakistani. they must have relatives in pakistan. your parents must talk with your relatives on phone.

in foreign pakistanis always lived in communities. so you must have pakistani families around you. And they must visited pakistan in last 4, 5 years.

you asked about culture. all cultures of south asia have links to each other, as all cultures of europe have links to each other.

indeed you are seemed illiterat. We are spending money on the deffense of pakistan. this is necessary for pakistan.

and pakistan never wants to make war. never ever. but if a country attacks on pakistan, then pakistan should be able to teach them lesson.

every country who will attack on pakistan would pay price. god gave us ability to protect pakistan. so we can live happy and health in our pakistan.
god blessed us. thanks god

Both of you seems to be illiterates. You really don’t know what is happening. Don’t try to support terrorists or underworld dons. Americans supported Laden . He kicked their ass now. They are still suffering and they will continue to suffer for some more time. I don’t want to see pakistan in that state. It is starting now here.

Think of the people here in Pakistan. How many people are suffering with the lack of food and homes…

less than india.

is another indian imposter

I think this thread has been somewhat lost it's track!! To bring it back on track, here is my observation:

My family is originally from rural Gujrat but now settled in Bahawalpur (although I live in UK now). Gujrat is a district in north punjab near Kashmir. It always been associated with murders and robbery but more so over the last few years. Now the situation is such that if we ever go there, we do not travel after dusk (or risk being mugged). There are many rivalries in the district and it seems that everybody who lives there is politically involved with either PPP or PML. The main occupation was farming but now every house hold has somebody sweating their ass off in USA or Europe so the rest of the family has given up farming and taken up politics and acting like a big Chaudhry!! Historically Gujrat has been associated with pots & pans, Sassi Pannu (famous love story) and recently fan production (all fans in pk are from Gujrat)!!

Bahawalpur is very tame and "backwards" compared to Gujrat. It used to be a state before Pakistan and it has a genuine claim of being recognised as a province. The indiginous people there are Saraikis who are very nice and hospitable people. Bahawalpur is mainly a desert area with farming as main occupation. When I was at school, Bahawalpur was a small town with very few cars and strange traditions. Now it has developed into a large (ish) city. But still is very peaceful. Recently a lot of Islamic militancy emerging from there. Jaish-e-Mohammad is based in Bahawalpur!!

I hope this gives you some information about Pakistan!

two years before I spend two weeks there.

yes I have seen rural Gujrat.

Well as I am originally from Gujrat, it is not in my interest to argue with you!! I was overcome by a surge of "honesty" when describing my home district.
