Re: To whom and how do you give Zakat?
Zakat should be given to deserving anybody. beginning from someone in the family or community, who is indigent but does not ask for any help on their own.
note: nota scholar, but generally i think that withholding help from anyone, just because they are not Muslims, does not feel right, being a Muslimah.
Ideally, yes, zakat ought to be given to deserving Muslims, if there are any around whome you can give zakat to.
Or establish a charity and send money to an orphanage/ orphan on a refular long term basis.
