To what extent should road rage drivers be reprimanded...

Recently in the UK there has been a lot of debate as to how we deal with road rage murders…

One incident documented this week was a bengali woman who was speeding …she ran over a guy and fled the scene giving the man permanent brain damage…now what was her punishment a fine of 50pounds…No-one would agree that that is acceptable…

Sometimes you do get a hefty sentence…a boy who killed everyone in his car whilst having a race got 5 years…which some seem as correct because you have murdered but some would see as harsh cos you didnt have intent…with
Issues that arise are that its an accident…it could happen to any of us…i could be driving tomorrow and run over someone becuase i am driving carelessly…should i be treated like any other criminal?..if this person dies can i be called a murderer?..Do i deserve to share a cell with people who openly murder people out of intent?..

Sentence also vary in terms of the aftermath…so if after running someone down i call an ambulance and hand myself over to police to i deserve jailtime?..I think if you run from the scene like that Bengali woman did leaving someone for dead then you have a right to some sort of punishment cos you could have saved someone…

But for most people for instance the boy who killed all his friends whilst racing…surely the hurt and the guilt is punishment enough…jail is for people who are dangerous to society or to rehabilitate people…is jail a place for people like this?..or is jail even a place for that Bengali woman?..

Im sure there are contradictions in my argument…but what do people suggest be a punishment for people who commit murder by accident?..

Re: To what extent should road rage drivers be reprimanded...

A person who leaves someone to die should be in jail, as for that guy who "killed" his friends, i think the guilt is punishment. Had a friend who died like this, the driver in the car was a good friend of my friend.. he had to go to jail :(

System is not fair

Sadia...
Sad to hear about your friends...the mental ordeal must be punishment enough...can happen to any of us...
How long did he go down for?...

Re: To what extent should road rage drivers be reprimanded...

driving licence is given only to adults
adults are responsible of their acts
it's high time people realise that cars are like guns!
sure it's usually not out of intent that someone kills or maim with car, BUT anyone driving carelessly is like someone shooting in the streets!
car acident are like loose bullets
and yes sure, it's normal that those stupids who don't care about other people life are sentenced to jail...5 years for a multiple murder, damn it's cheap!

i had a uni classmate in first year, he was burnt alive with 3 other guys (all were 19 year olds) while her girl friend died thrown out of the car, after some drunk people hit their little car with a massive car....

the young poor innocent all died, and the older rich drunk criminals had not a single injury and ran away...5 years in jail for such a barbarian crime, that's cheap!...too cheap

i had a friend once upon a time, after he told me he found normal to drive under drugs and risk killing people i never talk to him any more...cause i don't talk to wanna be criminals

Re: To what extent should road rage drivers be reprimanded...

Hey Guys,

Its possible that the incidents that you listed above are results of road rage but since details of how/why they occured aren't mentioned, I would be hesitant to lable them as road rage.

Road rage (also road violence) is a relatively serious act; it may be seen as a violation of property rights and an endangerment of personal security. Road rage is deliberately dangerous and/or violent behavior under the influence of heightened, violent emotion such as anger and frustration, involving an automobile in use.

This can involve deliberately hitting another person, vehicle or object with his/her own vehicle and/or firing a weapon from it. Other possibilities include hitting the person or vehicle with an item which is not his vehicle, but which ultimately hits another person or vehicle.

Getting out of one's vehicle to another person's vehicle and banging, knocking on the windows, and yelling insults, is another form of road rage.

I personally believe that you can't generalize about all incidents and have a standard punishment for them but Road Rage is a serious and a deliberate act therefore there should be a strict punishment for it. I don't think fines or confinement will get rid of the internal reaction for the triggers, therefore as a society we need to adopt ways to difuse frustration without harming ourselves or others.

There should be 0 tolerance for road rage.

Parrisenoor...
Im sorry to hear what happened...really sorry...
Are these people that killed your friends the same however as someone who calculatedly kills people...its shameful that they ran away and for that they should be reprimanded...
However dont you feel that running someone over is something that any of us could possibly do...that Bengali woman for instance was just a careless driver...should she get 5 years?...
