To what extent is this true, if at all?

Jitna hasna utna rona

The more you laugh, the same you will cry

My mum always says this, I don’t much believe it.

What do you guys make of it?

Re: To what extent is this true, if at all?

I don't think it's true at all.
No side effects of being happy!

Re: To what extent is this true, if at all?

im gona say i do actully belive its true in a sense there have been times ive laughed so much that towards the end of the day i would always end up with a argument or get upset over something , so az our elders do say after you have laughed so much remember to say tubah ASTAGHFIRULLAH

Re: To what extent is this true, if at all?

jaisaa kar, vaisaa bhar/jo boyegaa vohii kaaTegaa

if that seems to be true then this also holds true.

buraaiyoN kaa silaa buraaii se milnaa yaa bhalaaii kaa silaa bhalaaii se milnaa kam az kam is dunyaa meN zaroorii nahiiN [kabhii kabhaar ba_taur sabaq Allah zaroor isii dunyaa meN sazaa de detaa hai] ... magar, achchhaaii kaa silaa achchhaaii/jazaa aur buraaii kaa silaa buraaii/sazaa roz-e-qayaamat meN milnaa laazmii hai ... yeh baat aur hai k Allah jise chaahe baKhsh de magar victim ko compensate zaroor kiyaa jaayegaa...iA

Re: To what extent is this true, if at all?

Hamza Yusuf has a lecture series on purification of the soul where he discusses various vices and habits that harden the heart and are seen as spiritual diseases. Among them was the mention of excessive laughter or excessive happiness/carefreeness that makes one heedless of the hereafter and working toward it. But apart from the lecture, I've heard the same (maybe from my mom?) that too much laughter isn't good. Interestingly, I've read/heard that even among dream interpretation, smiling in a dream is better than laughing. The latter has an interpretation of impending sorrow, but then again, many factors are at play in dream interpretation.
