But would that not mean there’s no special bond when they’re intimate or in bed together? it’s kinda depressing (to me anyway) if a husband and wife relationship doesn’t mean an extra level of closeness or feeling..

That would be pretty depressing. But what I was referring to was a great understanding between both partners that they can put their emotions aside (like friends) and just hear each other out (maybe while discussing past relationships, one spouse cheating, etc. ). I think that type of understanding only increases love.
