Re: to the gals wearing hijaab

LOL.

Majestic – You should have said ,well yellow means cheerful, red means fiesty , blue means depressed etc.

Actually what Ive noticed is that a lot of people actually want to know why we wear it. And they do patiently hear out my explanations.

Re: to the gals wearing hijaab

Mashallah. Good on you.

Re: to the gals wearing hijaab

I haven't. I wore abaya for some time and wore it around downtown where all the wackos hang out but have never recieved anything like that, although someone asked what the abaya was for, which I explained, and another commented that it looked graceful. I do have a question for some hijabi girls, what's up with the pronounced alien bump at the back of the head?

Re: to the gals wearing hijaab

alien bump?

Re: to the gals wearing hijaab

'm guessing that would be the hair. Some girls have long hair, taht they put up in a bun and thus the bump.

Re: to the gals wearing hijaab

yeah like mood hijabs

Re: to the gals wearing hijaab

OK, never wore a hijab and not a Muslim, but I went through radiation and chemo twice and wore headscarves to hide the fact that my hair fell out. I did have a wig, but hated it.

Anyway, I always dress conservatively and when I wore a headscarf, aside from the confusion from the few Muslims I came into contact with, other whites always asked me why I had it on, I usually just said because I like it. I had a few who asked if I was a novice (training to be a nun).

But I really never got a rude comment, just curiosity, easy enough to handle. Why get upset over or make fun of people asking questions? Why take this personally?

Majestic and Muslim_Queen - Well, as an American I know that the different color scarves that (I believe) Arabic men wear mean different families or affiliations, so maybe whoever asked that was wondering if it was the same thing. To be honest, that used to be one of my questions way back when that was answered by an Indian girl who was a good friend.

Re: to the gals wearing hijaab

Arab guys wear hijabs? But I think I know what you are talking about. And as a Arab I can tell you it does not mean different familes or affilations, its just that different countries have different “styles”. Like Saudis have the red checkerd ones, the ones from the Gulf States wear solid white ones, and so on.

Re: to the gals wearing hijaab

Thank you very much Majestic, now I know what I was told was wrong. Learn something new every day :)

Re: to the gals wearing hijaab

minah-pa, most people do ask question just out of interest and it is great that they do, it opens up a dialouge and the vast majority of people are perfectly reasonable.
But imagine if u were always always asked about your shirt- for me wearing a scarf is just part of my normal clothing, it isn't a big huge political, religious statement, it is just my norm. And its quite nice to see the humourous side of the questions asked.
Yes, sometimes it is hot under the scarf, its also hot under my clothes!

Re: to the gals wearing hijaab

^ hehe yea...nxt time someoen asks "is it hot under there" u shud ask em "is it hot under ur shirt?" ..then again they might not be wearin a shirt so ...watever :p

Re: to the gals wearing hijaab

^or worst still-they may say 'hell yes' and take it off right infront of me!

Re: to the gals wearing hijaab

^ when asked that question I always say its hotter in hell.

Re: to the gals wearing hijaab

whats wrong in them asking 'is it hot under it?' Hijaab might be part of your normal attire but to them it is not..so the curiousity..why get riled about it?its not as if they are mocking it?

Re: to the gals wearing hijaab

we didnt say there was anything wrong in them asking about it ...we are just simply sharing some of the experiences we have come across..
im dont know why ure getting so riled up......
