Hi
Construction for my house is starting next week. I have not decided floor covering for upstairs.
I am in love with carpet and I never had before where as my last house had laminate flooring.
Now I really want carpet. I went to carpet shop and liked synthetic carpet that is long lasting, stain resistant and anti allergic. …it is very expensive. But hubby is 50% for carpet.
I am concerned as carpet is very expensive and down the track what if I dont like it or kids are having allergies or something else…looking at cost I am scared to invest even though I am totally in love.
With laminate its weekly cleaning and it costs 80% less than carpet.
I grew up in a fully carpeted house where my younger siblings always had constant (sometimes severe) allergy. I personally think that a very good thorough cleaning is very hard, if not impossible, to maintain in a fully carpeted house/rooms unless you change the carpet every 6 months which can be expensive. I would always prefer the non-carpeted floor where the floor could be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected daily. Dont have a problem with rugs but not fully carpeted at all. But then I also believe in keeping the least amount of furniture. That keeps the place appear more spacious and clutter-less
I like carpets. The sound of people walking on non carpeted floors is too much especially for bedrooms. We have always had carpeted upstairs and have had no allergies issues. I have two kids. Same reason I would never have wooden floors either, too noisy.
Carpet, my mum has oak flooring in the house downstairs but we grew up with carpet. Her current floor is nice as the rooms stay cool in summer, but laminate is not as nice
I would stick to carpet it makes the house more homely i think
thanks everyone for suggestions. I am going for carpet.........I thought dad ( he is totally anti carpet due to family members having various allergies) would be angry but he was glad we made this decision. so we got quote for high end carpet and it was 13000 but as my brothers are having too so we all got really good deal.
yes other floors are much cleaner but if you have downstairs to clean (tiles) and you have kids and work its not easy to mop two set of floors.
Plus we do get harsh weather in winter too (not as in snow but very windy and cold) and with other floors we had heater on all the time and would still freeze. so cant wait now for carpet
