To Kaaza or not to Kaaza

Hello Friends,

I am thinking of joining a paid internet service to download songs. Kaaza.com is one of them. There is also MP3U.com

Does anyone have any experience with any of these or have a recommendation? I hope to download Desi songs as well, if possible.

Thanks in advance.

Re: To Kaaza or not to Kaaza

I never knew Kaaza had a paid service as well. I mean, typically we hear about Kaaza as a free music-swapping site.

If you wish to join a paid internet service to download songs, then good luck. Do let us know how your experience goes. :k:

I think kAzaa is a free file swaping program. But kAAza is charging $1.49/mo
for its services.

I use Kazaa all the time and have never had to pay for their services.

If you do join, make sure you disable the ability for other users to have full access to your personal files or else they'll start uploading stuff from your computer.... talking from experience here!

Ah! That explains it. Thanks for clarifying. :k:

I think Kazaa has more problems than that. For starters, it loads spyware into your computer. I have to run Pest Petrol just to keep an eye on Kazaa. And then whenever I start Kazaa, it makes my Firewall go crazy. I have disabled all uploading (which is your shared folder anyway), and also I have disabled auto-start-up. When I need a song, I start it, and exit out completely as soon as its done. I guess, if someone can manage all these assorted "gifts", then Kazaa is good for personal use. Atleast till it lasts. I have little doubt, that sooner or later these music companies will come after it too.

oh no… :smack: The same thing happened with us. We had Kazaa, then uninstalled it for memory reasons (our comp was running low on memory).
A few months later, we started getting calls from our local internet service provider that someone was uploading huge amounts of data from our computer. This is one of the major internet service providers in our city, but it was causing them disruptions in providing internet access to others - cuz our one family account with them was hogging so much memory. It caused sooooooooo many problems, for everyone, not just us. gosh it was an awful experience. Alhamdulillah it’s been fixed now…but only cuz our computers crashed and so we had to reformat everything and install it new. :smack:

i miss not being able to download any music files i want from Kazaa, but the peace of mind that we have got in return - i can’t put a price on that.

Use KazaaLite. It's Kazaa without the spyware. And you can either disable uploads, or you can just move downloaded files out of your shared directory once the download is complete.

Oh gosh, what is this spyware???

I think my Kazaa is o.k. now after I had my little incident of having files uploaded from my computer. I disabled everything and set it so that I don't have the program start automatically. I don't store anything at all in my shared folder eventhough I disabled the ability for other Kazaa users to take stuff off of my computer.

Hmmm, I will take a peak at the settings when I get home to see if there is any spyware installed.

In case you didn't read about it... the Music companies have recently filed a law suit, not against the file-swapping company, but the INDIVIDUALS (a few of them) who had downloaded songs from there. If they continue to do that, that will slowly "kill" this thing, atleast in the USA. Those elsewhere can continue to swap, I guess.

if everybody start disabling uploads from Kazaa then wuts the use? we won't get anything from anyone then. i use kazaalite and don't have any problems with it. i also have firewall and it doesn't cause me probelms there either.

I think the paid services is called Kazaa Gold. And Kazaa has a large base, I don't think that about 5% would really effect the downloads. They're leechers, and nothign can be done about that.
