But if you can’t/don’t want to use it to justify your very own wrongdoing.. then why would you be willing to use it for justifying someone else’s wrongdoings?

i) to hold myself to a higher standard of conduct than I expect of others, and
ii) to exercise empathy and responsiveness towards others whose circumstances I’m not privy to.
