"To err is human.....

and I’m only human…forgive me!"

Valid reason or cop out?

How do you see it?
Does the offense matter?

Re: "To err is human.....

lame excuses

you would apply it when it comes to you, but wouldn't allow the same courtesy someone else

Re: "To err is human.....

Can be valid. Depends on the offense obviously.

Re: "To err is human.....

^ okay....here's a scenario.....

"I know you don't like it but we went to a strip club after the casino last night. I didn't really care if we went or not but all the guys started making jokes about me not wanting to go so I gave in to peer pressure......"

Re: "To err is human.....

agreed it depends whts the mistake?

Re: "To err is human.....

Well, depending on your threshold of what's tolerable or not in a relationship, it could be considered an error in judgement or a lame excuse.

Re: "To err is human.....

That sentence gets misused so easily to justify certain actions... Not every "mistake" is a mistake.

Re: "To err is human.....

didn't we already have a guy goes to strip club thread yesterday? vut is dis?

Re: "To err is human.....

"To err is human"...
I'd probably use this to give the benefit of doubt to someone else but not to justify my own wrongdoings.

Re: "To err is human.....

But if you can't/don't want to use it to justify your very own wrongdoing.. then why would you be willing to use it for justifying someone else's wrongdoings? :p

Re: "To err is human.....

i) to hold myself to a higher standard of conduct than I expect of others, and
ii) to exercise empathy and responsiveness towards others whose circumstances I'm not privy to.

Re: "To err is human.....

yeah there was.....and I just read it so I thought it would be a good example to use here....

Re: "To err is human.....

Obviously depends on the offense. and the one in question...cop out.

Re: "To err is human.....

to err is human
and to learn is human
so is the ability to make the correct choice

so if I am going to let someone off the hook because to err is human, I expect that the same error will not be repeated.
additionally, if it was a poor decision, it was not an error, it was a poor choice... not a mistake but a decision knowing the plus and minus but deciding that one would decide to go against what they have learnt.

and yes, I apply that to myself as well. I made many extremely poor choices in my life, those were not errors..those were deliberate poor decisions because I did not give a rat's ass about right and wrong.

Re: "To err is human.....

a man who gives into peer pressure? unforgivable.

Re: "To err is human.....

To err is human. The err here covers mistakes false choices etc. If the person committing the error is truly remorseful, he has earned forgiveness.

As for the specific example- not a big issue. People can do far worse. This is no different than watching po-n

Re: "To err is human…

That means you did not go.. Are you trying to cover up :grumpy:
