To blog or not to blog?

I’ve been toying with the idea of blogging recently. I was a wannabe writer prior to med school and though I feel like I’m losing that part of me, I’ve been having urges to maintain some of those skills. I just don’t know if I have anything unique enough to say. I’m a newly newly married med student…and I’m pretty makeup savvy. Fashion in terms of clothes…not so much. Some of my friends are being super encouraging about it and others think its a dumb idea and I should let it go.

What do you think? What kind of stuff would you want to see?

Re: To blog or not to blog?

Why are you so confused about it, just write wutever you want. O yea fashion blogs are taken over by PCG, photography and yummy dishes are taken over by dubaiwali, rishta blogs also by PCG so wutever is left out there is yours.

No i'm just kidding. Do really write anything you want about. However there are plenty of options like making yr blogs private to your friends or not allowing any comments etc so you may need to look into it.

Re: To blog or not to blog?

See, I think I'm just being crazy and insecure. On the one hand, I want it to be a public blog because I like that aspect of blogging (so it's less like a journal) but I'm scared I'm going to be judged by people like "oh another blogger trying to get famous". It's dumb, I know.

Re: To blog or not to blog?

Nah, dont worry about that. people can judge you even in regular posts so why care about them. Its your life and your choice so do as you feel like. Welcome to blogging! :)

Re: To blog or not to blog?

One good thing about blog (as opposed to forum) is you can always delete the comments or block all those meanies from your blog :P

Re: To blog or not to blog?

If you feel you have something to blog about then try it. I know nothing about your topic of interest so I obviously can't advise anything about it.

However, as someone who has tried blogging, I decided to go private in order to maintain the quality of engagement/interactions with the audience. I'd say it worked out well. I'd continue but the biggest challenge for me was to find the time and come up with new and unique (enough) content for subsequent entries. I still do it occasionally, but now the entries are much fewer and much less frequent.

Re: To blog or not to blog?

Please write a 4 - paragraph single spaced Times New Roman font 12 piece on why we should allow you to blog.

10 pct of the weight age goes to proper headings for each paragraph, 70 pct to content, and the remaining to handwriting quality.

Re: To blog or not to blog?

Unique? Is there any movie or novel out there is entirely unique? I don't think so. People just their put their own spin on already existing concepts or common experiences. In my opinion, and you're welcome to disagree, trying hard to sound unique can some across as trying too hard and readers can sense it. It's better to be natural, to write from the heart. I recently read a fiction book by an Indian author called The Abundance. It was basically the thoughts of a mother/wife who has terminal cancer. There is nothing novel about that experience. There are hundreds of people out there suffering that trial. It's not a novel concept in literature. But the author put his own take on it. He expressed certain feelings and moments..in very simple words...but in a way that made me pause and think. And I'd read some of his lines twice and I wanted to write them down as quotes but I was too lazy to grab a pen and and paper, lol.

But it's not even about trying hard to make your blog sound thought-provoking, or humorous. Just write from your heart, uninhibited. The most enjoyable writings to read are the ones that are simple and from the heart. And it could just be your thoughts about something seemingly inane. For example, if I were interested and motivated enough, I'd blog on entry about something simple like sneezing. Cuz at this moment in time, sneezing is the first topic that came to mind. I didn't have to think too hard about it. I think it's fun to sneeze. Seriously. Others may think that's weird, but I'm being honest. I think it's fun because there's the superstition that a sneeze means that someone's remembering you. And while I know in the back of my mind that it's not logical and that it may be a gunnah even, but for a second it's fun to have that wishful thought. And I end up looking at the time and wondering who at this hour could possibly be thinking of me if there were any truth to the superstition. Write from your heart. Write about things/feelings that come easily and naturally to you whether it's about work, or your marriage, or some event, or something someone said or that you witnessed, or some musing about life and human nature. There are way too many fashion and makeup blogs out there. I say mix it up. A mix of light and deep. Unless you wanna narrow your blogs to one specific experience. Nevertheless, I wish you well.
