To be natural or artificial

Do you think it is ok to adopt anything artificial in one’s life which serves anyone’s purpose temporarily and helps the person in presenting himself what he actually is not, e.g. wig, fake acent, plastic surgery, hair transplant, make up, using coloured lenses, changing colour of hair…etc.

For example

If a people changes the tone of his voice while delivering a speech, or in other words, he is not speaking the way he usually speaks naturally in life. In your views he is natural or artifical ?

If a desi tries to make his accent like that of a britisher or American while giving an interview?

If a person takes alot of loan to present himself as rich with his clothings and lifestyle to the girl he wants to marry…
,…so on.

Your views ?

Re: To be natural or artificial

I think changing the way you look for your own needs its kind of selfish andd conceited...but changing the tone of your voice is a differentstory, i dont know how to explain it but to me that isnt conceited..

Re: To be natural or artificial

^ I understand what you mean. Like changing one's voice to express your confidence and to be able to utter each word loudly, clearly and crisply.

Re: To be natural or artificial

It depends on what it is for which you are going in for a change and the motive behind it...for example u mentioned some scenerios...i believe if u r living abroad and want to go for a job interview it wl only help if u have a pleasant accent...but having said that it doesnt mean u go overboard with that...i think if some1 works on their accent and changes it there is nothing wrong with that...if people use make-up (which is obviously 2 make yrself look better) thats fine 2...BUT I m against girls or now we can say even guys (since they r into it 2) wearing proper make-up while they r being shown for rishtas...lol thats so unfair cuz esp with the girls the whole face can change from a very avg lukin face 2 some1 very pretty just by the rite use of make-up...so thats misleading!. And ofcourse so is taking loans 2 present yrself as some1 which u r not...thats cheating.

Re: To be natural or artificial

a person changing his voice to make it sound clearer is doing so to get the attention of his audience and present his speech well, it is not harming anyone. a person presenting himself as rich is in a way lying and that sort of thing is harmful.
as far as things like wigs, contacts and plastic surgery are concerned, everyone sets their own boundaries...
as they say u can impress some of the people all the time and u can impress all of the people sometimes..but you can never impress all of the people all the time.

Re: To be natural or artificial

Natural if you are liked that way
Artificial if no one appreciates you
:S
most people especially girls for some reason act so artificial: jhoot ki shareef and talk like ashwariya rai ;S

Re: To be natural or artificial

yeah! that’s exactly what i mean:D I mean..when you change your voice you’re trying to EXPRESS yourself…but when you’re trying to change the way you look, you just people want around you to think you look good…

err something like that..I know im missing something:bummer:

Re: To be natural or artificial

i dont prefer anything artificial.. be it makeup, lenses, hair, accent, loans, ANYTHING ... for me, natural is everything .. if i'm bald (getting bald) then, well there is nothing to be ashamed of .. i wouldnt put a wig to cover it up.. if i dont like my eyes, i wouldnt be putting contacts..

accent.. well accent changes time to time, whenever i visit backhome, i pick up the heavy accent, over pronouncing everything, .. and when i come back here, it takes some time to phase out .. but yeah, i will never approve of artificial things..

telling this to girls about makeup is a REALLY TRICKY business, they take it religiously offensive ... again, we live in the world where everybody is marketting and image ka mara hua with inferiority complex drilled in the head..

Re: To be natural or artificial

The issue for me tned to do with say enhancement and say hiding inadequacies...
Say for instance a girl fixes her teeth or gets a boobjob thats enhancement for me and that sounds fine...it becomes permanent aswell so is genuine enhancement...other things such as highlighting ones hair also sound fine to me...Makeup aswell if done correctly can enhance someone...akthough these dont compete with a girl who doesnt need enhancmenet...Au natural is great so if you can look great without makeup then that puts you ont top of the pile cos you dont need artifical enhancements...

A voice though is a bit different...when im at work im significantly more well spoken than i am with friends...its understanding your sourroundings and neednt be fake...you may swear with your friends but you wouldnt do that in front of your mum...

Re: To be natural or artificial

Hm...ok. I have a question.

Does anyone think that it is appropriate to spend alot of money on fashion, makeup and other things to present oneself the way one doesn't actually look like, when one knows that the same amount of money might be spent for better causes like financially supporting one's poor relatives and orphans...etc.

I understand that one should look presentable, but I am talking about cases where too much money is spent on cosmetic and other stuffs. Is it really very necessary to be too much self concious in terms of giving oneself a different look than how the nature has blessed him/her ?

p.s. Here you can assume "too much" whatever is too much according to you.

Re: To be natural or artificial

The definition of extravagance in Islam is money spent on haram...so i can buy 10 mercedes if i can afford it which would be acceptabl;e whilst buying a pint of Guiness would count as extravagance...

Makeups a bit of a touchy issue Islamically isnt it?...

Anyhow fact is fashion aside you can apply this to every facet in life...a month ago i bought a fat plasma screen for my bedroom...i could have not bought it and done something for charity etc etc...

Spending an extra tenner on some jeans...again couldnt that tenner have gone to charity etc...

Fact is you can apply this to everything that isnt a neccesity...so are you going to give yourself a guilt trip every time you spend money on something that isnt food, clothing or shleter?...

We can always spend our money in better ways but you dont have to...give your zakat and give some sadaqa...dont worry yoursle fwith spending money on your makeup...

Re: To be natural or artificial

Well, I understand what you mean, but the real point to which I wanted to bring attention was:

When I said

No it's not, it's both immature and sickening.
Focusing too much on oneself is separating us from others....
THere should be a balance on everything...I care about my look, to be neat, clean and enough nice to "fit" in my work place, or family gatherings...I do care about look also to please my boyfriend, but i chose a guy who is wise enough no to request me to spend lots of time/money on look, and he doesn't either...
BUT I prefer to care about others, and spending money on gifts for family, saving money for my future kids, spending time cooking for my bf...rather than pampering myself like a selfish princess
