or the ones who recruited (or still are recruiting)
do you guys pay attention to the interviewee’s shoes, especially if someone is wearing All Stars Converse Shoes?

Re: to all the recruiters

so you do expect to some extent?
ps. cooking is an art...and there is an artist in each of us. What are you talking about?

You always have to expect some clueless folks. hopefully HR weeds em out before they get to my office but not always

I agree the shoes came out of box but wearing all star converse shoes to a job interview is not out of box thinking.

i asked this question because i want to know how recruiters take this practice. i find it kool when people wear it, but i am also noticing that this practice is penetrating in corporate world.
i personally like to dress up professionally because it automatically gives me confidence in that workforce environment.
and i asked X2 appearance logicality question because i didn't like the way he brought in my area of concentration.
otherwise if i really had to impose this practice than i might would asked u to buy some robots and customize them according to your own no-Chuck Taylor way.

appearance matters.
I do like to work with challenging-out-of-the-box-thinkers but one does not have to wear hemp hoodies and flipflops to be an out-of-the-box-thinker.
and its not just how good a person is technically, but how well can the person interact with internal and external stakeholders, decision makers, and of course customers and industry at large.
I expect an out-of-the-box thinker to think logically about what is appropriate for which situation, and if the situation requires a suit and lace-ups, then that is what is needed.
The only thing you are mistaken about is the definition of what a challenging-out-of-the-box-thinker is.

why take it personally. I said its not the expected attire for my line of work, industry etc and especially not for interviews.
There are companies and jobs for which a suit and captoes are not the right choice of attire. and even in companies where the normal business attire is a suit, when its a company retreat..no one expects to see ppl show up as clark kent. depending on teh culture of the company it can range from chinos and polo shirts to shorts, tshirts and flipflops.
the point is right attire for the right situation. Knowing my company culture, and industry, it would be rare that HR will pass a candidate who did not do their homework to understand how to show up for interviews.
Appears matters in general, yes.
It also depends on the industry and the position.... If you're there to work at a fashion retail and the job description requires you to be hip and cool and funky, then sure, wear it if thats your style.
Even in IT, some total techy geniuses with little or no client interaction in the job can get away with it simply because they are too good and their appearance doesnt matter to the employer as long as they are good at what they do...
Most other times, you would be expected to dress formally and properly according to a situation.
To me personally, it matters. I would not hire a person who hasnt bothered making an effort to look professional or lacks basic grooming. It doesnt take much really,, so theres no excuse.
